Courageous Senators stand up to American People?

Post by Snowstorm »

Can someone decipher this article to me?

Senator McConnell agreed that yesterday’s vote “sent a powerful message,” adding, “If the American people think that just because they voted us into office and pay our salaries, benefits, and pensions, we are somehow obliged to listen to them, they are sorely mistaken.”

Rest of article. http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/borowitzreport/2013/04/courageous-senators-stand-up-to-american-people.html

“We kept hearing, again and again, that ninety per cent of the American people wanted us to vote a certain way,” said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky). “Well, at the end of the day, we decided that we weren’t going to cave in to that kind of special-interest group.”

90% of the American People is a special-interest group?

It's a parody article, making fun by exaggerating the fact that lawmakers seem to be defying the will of the majority by not enacting stronger gun control legislation. But the article itself is a joke.
"If there was only a way that I couldn't even any less than I already can't then I'd gladly not, but I think I've entered some quantum paradox, dark matter levels of can't evening where the total absolute value of not evenness exceeds all ability to explain the can'ting." - MR RUBATO

I think we should give all of Congress, both the House and Senate, a free, MANDATORY cruise on Carnival Cruise lines. I'm fairly certain there's a 75% chance none of them would come back to bother us again. :o
