FDA forces big pharma to list the drug's side effects in advertisements, which are an extension of the labeling. Usually a 30 second commercial is filled with 15-20 seconds of side effects. That should tell you something about ALL compounded drugs.

But I digress, this is about adderall specifically. Do you have ADHD or narcolepsy? That's what it's indicated for.

Let's say some quack prescribes it for you anyway. Maybe you'll be more alert, or as you say, "successful". Maybe you'll also be shitting yourself, or unable to shit. Your hair may fall out. Your blood pressure may go nuclear and lead to seizures. Maybe you won't be able to sleep and be irritable or anxious all the time. Maybe you'll lose your sex drive, or why not just go completely impotent?

It's ok, they make OTHER DRUGS for all that shit too!

That's kind of why I'm asking here... I took it from 18-22 with no issues that I can think of, but stopped because everyone said prescription drugs are bad.

So I started again around the middle of the year and haven't noticed any real downsides. Surveying numerous sources and no one has noticed any bad side effects that I may have missed. Trying to be as clinical and unbiased as I can be...

I do reg affairs for medical devices, and used to do pharma. I know what it takes to get a drug to market, and how wrong some of those drugs have gone even after the premarket submission is cleared by the FDA.

That said, I admit I am firmly in the "no pharma" camp. I don't even like to take asprin unless all my natural methods of getting rid of a headache have failed. So take my advice with a grain of salt, or 10mg of NaCl.

If you're taking it, and you're not experiencing the counterindications listed in the package insert, then more power to you, Dave. I guess I'm just saying be REALLY cautious, man. You have some family history of addiction, and a tendency to ride the extreme, based on what I've read here. It's a slippery slope...

To answer some questions:

1.) Yes, it's really similar to coke. Depending on the blow, sometimes it's better. It certainly lasts a lot longer.
2.) I won't say I'm only successful due to it. I believe it keeps me focused, and allows me to maintain my composure while managing my life.
3.) I forget to take it on a regular basis, and function just fine. I've gotten through most of my career without it.
4.) I understand addiction, and why it's not a good idea to rely on anything. Conversely, aside from the stigma surrounding the prescription, I'm trying to understand the true downsides to it.
5.) As I've gotten older I have more of a struggle trying to focus and succeed. Since resuming low dose Adderall I have received positive feedback from several sources regarding my performance at work. I've always been recognized for my ability to communicate/present well, but now I'm constantly told my presentation skills and leadership are outstanding.
6.) I'm more thorough and less sloppy with minute details. Things such as filing my necessary paperwork/reports have always been a struggle for me, as I can maintain composure but get bored with the details. While I used to require checklists for doing the back end work, on adderall I have experienced a sharp uptick in my attention to detail.

Some background about me... I'm typically logical to a fault, but do have a wide swing of emotional responses both good and bad. From my seat of the pants analysis I've noticed the range has narrowed and I push through situations with a cooler head. On the flip side of things, achievements are met with less excitement since the peaks and valleys diminished.

I never took any psych drugs but I got quite a bit experience with them because my son needed them at some point.

My opinion is that like anything else, they will affect different people differently. Some people can do well with a drug that can be disastrous for others and vice versa. So if it seems to be working for you, don't get dissuaded by other people's horror stories. That goes for anything. For example, my brother can eat whatever he wants as much as he wants to and he will never gain a pound. I cannot do that. Like I said, everyone experience is different.

However, you need to always keep your guard up and make sure you have safeguard mechanisms in place to ensure the drug is actually working for you. Many people don't know the drug is harming them until it's too late.

so my suggestions would be:

1- have a "spotter". Someone who knows you well enough and long enough to be able to detect changes (positive and negative) in your personality that you may not notice and it's comfortable enough to bring them up to your attention if needed. And if they do, listen to them and talk to your doctor.

2- psychiatric treatment has to go hand in hand with psychological treatment. Have a consultation with a solid psychologist regularly to have a professional evaluation of your mood, any personality changes etc. Make him/her aware of the drugs you are taking and the side effects so they will know exactly how to conduct their evaluation and be able to detect issues, if any, as early as possible.

3- be also aware of the possible physical side effects of the drug and check for them with a doctor regularly. If you normally have an yearly check up, you might want to consider doing it twice an year when taking a strong psych drug, just to make sure there are no physical side effects creeping up without your knowledge.

In short, I don't think you should stop just because someone else had a bad experience with it, if you feel you are benefiting from it. However, I do think this type of treatment must be monitored closely in a personal, psychological and medical level. Not all psych drugs are bad and there's definitely no one size fits all solution.

I've been using it for the first time the last two weeks here and there at work.
Honestly its been awesome, my work is so fast paced and dynamic that it can be borderline impossible to focus on one task since new tasks come in faster than old ones get resolved.
Not to mention I manage an entire department and most of my team is pretty green so i have to spend quite a bit of time teaching not only practices but principles.

That said if my workload long term became as such that I'd need to use that full time I'd reconsider my choice of employment.
Its nice as a boost when the boost is necessary but I wouldn't want to make this my new normal.

Normally I'm scatter brained, so the Adderall helps me focus on the task at hand. I take such a low dose that I don't really get a "boost" from it.

If I drink coffee I become more alert and awake, but still have trouble focusing on one thing.

If I take Adderall I can focus but it's not the same as a nice cup of coffee as far as being awake.

So I just do both.

I'm just speaking the truth. :D Plus with those marathon beat off sessions you always end up climaxing to the weirdest porn. Like I just watched two midgets shove a horse cock up a girls ass while hula hooping. Don't make sense but damn if its not hot.

I think it was Doug Stanhope who said whats the point of porn if you can't beat off to some shit you would never do in real life?!? Words to live by, my friends.

Anyway, Kyle are you prescribed Adderall or just have some to get you through a busy spot?

Anyone else prescribed adderall? I'm a bit surprised at the lack of first hand responses. It seems like most of my colleagues are on it, all of my successful friends, and various attorneys I've talked to have mentioned it...

The only adults I know who take it are a guy who goes to raves and clubs with kids half our age, and a friend who committed suicide. :idk:

Several kids of my friends and family are on a prescription.
