Dawes - live show review

Post by dizzle-rock »

Up until 2 weeks ago I had never heard of this band. A buddy had an extra ticket and I usually don't pass up something that's free.

I youtubed them and nothing really jumped out at me... seemed almost boring...pretty melancholy etc.

I was pleasantly surprised with their live performance. great guitar tones and their mix was perfect. Both are tasteful players and 2nd guitar can play slide beautifully.

They played an hour and a half, took a 10 min break, then played another hour and a half. They started the second set with 2 acoustics and 3part harmony joining the lead vocals up front. good stuff.

Really versatile band stylistically, everyone was really talented, drummer and keys sang back up harmony on pretty much every song, a lot of dynamics.

If you get a chance to catch them live I highly recommend it, the womerns in the audience were shaking their butts pretty good too.

here is a clip from another show to give you some idea...they had a lot of rock\funky elements as well.. so don't let the chill fool you.

a rig rundown. I can't overstate how good they sounded live.

One of my favorite new alt bands. I have seen them once and would see em again when they have new material.
