And I said, "what about 'breakfast at tiffanie's'"

Post by BroSlinger »

The lyrical brilliance of this song can't be understated.

It's like a universe within a universe; a compound, exponential trip.

The singer is a hopeless creep obsessed with some girl from college with whom he saw a movie.

The movie is about a string of hopeless creeps obsessed with some girl they met once.

Brilliant.   :star: :star: :star:

I literally hate that song. It's like someone is shoving a screwdriver in my ear.

Now, imagine during the 90's when this song was a fucking thing, AND you happen to be dating a chick named Tiffany. Who, of course, in her teenage self centered world LOVES this song. I'm not saying I broke up with her cause she liked this. I mean, high school girls lasted like 3-4 weeks for me, but when the idea of hanging with her or getting blotto'd with my boys came up, id think, "she likes that stupid fucking song as if it pertains to her at all!! Fuck it, I'm gonna drop acid and play guitar instead."

It's the song full of commas...

"She said I, think I, remember the film and, as I recall, I think, we both kind of liked it, and I said, well that's, one thing we got.

I dig "Black coffee in bed" also.

Fixed that for you.

This song came out at a time when I was really happy, so it takes me back. However I think its target audience was closet cases who wear cardigans and live in their mom's basement with two cats and/or chicks who like wuss rock. I was happy at the time, because I had just moved out of my mom's basement. My cardigan was sadly destroyed by a faulty dryer.

I love them both, but would have to give BAT the edge.

I'm with Fat Fish. The smooth whiney-ness of BAT  is more pleasing to my ears than the warbly, nerdy over-enuciated chorus of CT :nerd:

Well, I hadn't seen the movie yet, and I said to my wife, "yeah, the song is about some douche obsessed with some girl he met once." She was like, "Ummmm, that's what the whole movie's about."

Watched the movie, and Bam! it all made sense.

The singer must know how much of a lovesick Morrissey he is if he can turn the movie plot into a song about the movie.

I LOVE that you guys are calling it "BAT". As if it's so well known, it has it's own abbreviation. Fantastic!

Ummm... :nerd: I'm not sure I'd set one of Squeeze's more evocative songs as a comparison to Breakfast at Tiffany's. Unless your're being sarcastic. You need to use the sarcasm font for that. :hmm:
“Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity."(Hanlon's Razor)

"rock enough that I don't drown in ... jazz ennui" - draelyc
