I've never used the iLok stuff, but I remember when I first bought my Focusrite Saffire Pro years ago it had some kinda PACE Anti-Piracy (I think that's what it was called) shit that you had to go through to install the plugins that came with the unit, and it just simply did not fucking work.

Never was able to use the plugins because of that shit

Seems like the only company that has figured out sorta/kinda how to deal with iLok licensing is Slate. Every other company I've had to use one for, from design software at work to plugins at home, are absolute shitfests of purile corporatized hoop jumping garbage dumps. So much so that I have some plugins I flat out gave up on ever getting installed properly and refuse to ever deal with the companies involved again.

Fucking iLok sucks.
About three years ago, shortly after I bought ProTools, iLok had a software update that froze ProTools. Thousands of people working in pro studios and home studios around the world, were locked out of ProTools, for five weeks. Locked out by iLok... :cop:

FIVE WEEKS?

I'd shank a bitch and all I have is my own bullshit and a couple buddies demos on my system. I can't imagine being a pro studio and not being able to use my DAW because iLok decided to titty fuck the world for five FUCKING weeks! Holy hell.

Five long weeks! I had my ProTools installed for about a week when the iLok update notice arrived by email. I was still learning how to use PT and I was going to wait to install the iLok update because, it wasn't required. I remember thinking, it's only iLok so, WTF?

Holy shit that gearslutz thread. The dude that got laid off because Pro-Tools quite working. This is the shit that software/hardware companies don't understand when it comes to updates. This fucking affects people's lives now. It ain't just nerds in a basement playing video games anymore.

About every other time my windows updates, which I hat when it does, my pace anti piracy ilok manager fritzes but there's an easy fix I've learned through research and fretless finding some answers for me online.

You go administrative tools in windows, services, find pace anti piracy app and trigger it into "running" mode. That's it. Solved all my Ilok frustrations.

iLok's fuck up was serious and no one in the thread was realizing how serious it really was. I felt that it was my civic duty to reveal the potential damage that could be caused by the issue.... even if it was BS.

Agreed. I saw a free bundle posted here awhile back and it had that Eventide Reverb in it. All stoked, saw it was iLok, fuck you. I'm not even going to mess around with it, I'll end up hitting something valuable.

Waves is a piece of shit as well. None of their shit is anything better than what's already in Reaper, but it takes serious time out of your fuckin life to register and use anything. I hate that company forever and will never get anything they put out ever again. Useless fucks.

EDIT: should have listened to you Gene...I just spent an hour dicking around with iLok and Eventide for a reverb I've never even heard. Never again. I thought the point of giving away free shit was to hook the consumer and reel them in for paid shit. All they did was make me realize I'll never trust either of them again.

Fuckin' A. I wasted half of the morning trying to install this free eventide space room reverb. I was late for work. Seriously, I would rather pay $50, and use it, than get fucked in the ass over and over by this ilok shit. I will never trust eventide again. Fuck them and Fuck Ilok.

Plugins that actually fucking work:

Valhalla DSP - $50 a pop, and worth it
Focusrite Red 2&3 - came with my interface. I would probably still pay for them if I had to.
VladG Molot Compressor - free. works great
VladG LimiterNo.6 - free. works great
Tokyo Dawn Labs Kotelnikov compressor - free. can't play without it.
Tokyo Dawn Labs Slick EQ - Free. can't play without it
Tokyo Dawn Nova multi band eq/comp - free. Can't LIVE without it.

Are you using Slick EQ for mastering and Nova on individual instruments?

Slick eq goes on drums and mastering. Soviet crisis preset is great.
Nova goes on drums and mastering. Overall eq tuning.

I also use nova's de-essing preset on vocals.

Don't Eventide just use the software Ilok in the same way Soundtoys do - you just copy/paste the license number into a box and it's good to go? Or is there some extra layer of hell that I've been lucky enough not to come across yet?

I got that free reverb too, have to admit I've not even bothered to install it.
