I use to plug guitar into a POD 2.0 with cab sim -> direct out to PC, then use cool edit pro 2 to record and layer tracks.
Backing tracks were created using free version of fruity loops..
Is there a way now to do this without breaking the bank nowadays? I've seen a pocket pod for $180CDN. Maybe there is a better bang/buck way to approach this?
Also i dont want to deal with input delays and all that. My pod2.0 setup had no noticeable delay, so it was decent that way. And i was happy with the results with it.
Affordable PC recording setup?

OMG Cool Edit Pro lol that was my first software.
What's your PC processing speed and ram looking like? Do you have an amp, SM57, and cables?
With Reaper and a cheap interface like a Mackie Blackjack or updated Scarlett 2i2 you're good to go.

I dont have mics, but recording needs to be silent (headphones) as i only have time to record once my 3 munchkins are sleeping lol...
A multi effect/amp sim type setup like the pod was nice for that.

I don't know enough about the software based modding that you could use on your computer vs the POD but you'd still need an interface of some sort I think.

There are a lot of good free vst amp emus, google LePou, Nick Crow, TSE. Ignite Amps has a couple that I haven't tried myself.

I just ordered the solo version, comes with the same suite, but only has 1 channel. Plenty for me

Looks like it cuts the latency by loading the sound profile (amps and effects) directly to the box instead of sending the raw signal to the PC to process the signal. That's pretty awesome.
Thanks for the advice!
