Quick 8 string clip.

Post by exafro »

Sup fellas? Haven't been around in a bit because of life and such. Was off from work today and wanted to lay a couple riffs down. How does it sound?

Yup. I threw an 81-8x in it a while ago but never really got around to doing clips because I needed to figure out the best way to set up a 4 strong bass for this tuning. The 81x is so much better than the 808 that was in there.

Nice. What gauges/tuning you end up doing for the bass?

Tuning is Drop-B, so B F# B E. For me, playing the F# in unison seems to work well enough and I have the low B on there for the chunky stuff if I need it. I ended up using D'Addario XL 165-5's and just omitted the .105. I believe its 135, 85, 65 and 45. String tension is nice and the 135 for the B feels perfect.

Sounds good, man. I've been hung up on the 57-8 lately. Just enough bite without going harsh. The 808 is truly the most despicably useless pickup ever. I swear EMG gives OEM deals on them just to guarantee another after market sale for every guitar that has them stock.

I've been using a six string bass. For years I went with octave below the low F#, then I went down to F tuning on the guitars and took a standard six string bass tuning and went up a half step so the second string from the low side is F in unison with the guitar, when the guitars get real high I can slam down on that C string and still get some chunk. So many things can be done with bass when the guitar is so all over the map like it can be with an eight string.

I'm not surprised. IMO EMG 707's and 808's are fucking horrid

Clip sounds great by the way!
