I tried this mic several times and never liked it. I much prefer to record my amp with a 57.

So my placement suggestion would be on eBay/Reverb
Guitars:
'78 Les Paul Pro / '89 SG Special/ '04 Gibson Les Paul Classic 3 pickup / Jackson Star/ Endres Tele / Fernandes Rhoads/ ''74 Hohner MIJ strat/ 2 Partscasters

Amps:
Depends on when you ask. I got tired of constantly updating this section lol

Cabs
Marshall 1960A w V30s/ Seismic 2x12 w Redback and V30.

Not surprised considering they don't market the 20 as an instrument mic. Should have got the 30. :cop:

recording rock guitar with anything but a 57 is kind of like not using a Gibson/Fender. First off: why? Second, try all you want, you will be back. Some things are classics for a reason.

LOL! There are a ton of guys who get really good tones that recommended the PR20. By a ton, I mean 3!

Oh I have the #0, don;t you worry. I really like that mic as well. I have tried the 20 twice now and am just not digging. A few die hard 57 users said it was like a 57 but fuller. I don;t see it. I also hate 57's so there is that...

Man I am not going to lie, I prefer the 609 greatly over the 57. Shit, even all the Henning vids I did, which folks have seemed to like well enough, are all ribbon mic. I can't believe how well the NOS Panther worked on the Bottle Rocket/

I will have to try the 57 again and maybe do a comparison clip.

I've got a 57, and was seriously happy with it on the clips I posted over the weekend. Spent next to no time getting it lined up where it needed to be, and it took some fairly serious volume like a champ.

I HAVE a 57, I just don't tend to prefer it for some reason. Most all of my Splawn clips have been the 609.

This was all 609. I think for being rushed and poorly mixed it sounds propah! Vocals are dodgy though...

yeah I am just joking around... I'm sure there are other great mics out there... and guitars, amps etc... but I just plug my Gibson into my Marshall with a 57 out front and it works every time so :idk:

yeah I hear you man. Honestly, I get frustrated a lot of the time as I don;t always have a lot of time to set up and tweak mic placement and the 57 is never "right" for me just slapping it up like the 609 is. Now I know I love a lot of recordings done with the 57, mine just never sound like them!

Yeah man - didn't mean to imply your clips were anything but excellent. I was just surprised to hear that you weren't liking the 57, which had worked so well for me. In fact, I've never had micing go so easy as it did for me this past weekend. The clarity and tone of the clip is almost exactly what I was hearing when I was sitting in front of the speaker cab.

There are many speakers that work well with a 57 and some others that do not. I'm into a more basic approach though. Not particularly a fan of using $1000 ribbon mics on a cab either. Tried the 609, 906, 421, and I like the 57 best.

I definitely have a lot to learn on mic'ing for sure. The ribbon on the Henning clips was a happy accident for sure.

After years of using a 57, I'm almost exclusively using a 609 now. Absolutely love its clarity.
