I had some ulevel areas (where the house is 30 years old & has settled), so I ended up taking some thin underlayment & putting down in the low areas, before putting down the regular underlayment. Still not perfectly level, but better than it was.

My house was built in 1947, so I know what you mean when you talk about "unlevel areas". In some ways it's even worse than my previous house which was built in 1908.

100 watt wrote:A shame it got flooded. That house was a "cadillac" , in it's day. Only thing is, had it not flooded, it NEVER got updated. Before it flooded, it still had brass fixtures, flowery wall paper, carpet, etc. You coulda filmed an 80's movie in it & it woulda been period correct lol.

Like you said, at least you are reusing the trim. 20k's worth is hard for me to visualize. I have maybe $250 in Menard's trim at my place.

I had a few rooms that didnt have crown moulding / cieling trim originally. When I had the sheet rockers finish the sheetrock, I didnt have them do where the cieling meets the wall, to save some $$$ & time on the finishing. I'll be putting up Menards or Lowes stuff in those rooms. Im gonna get that foam stuff. I wouldnt use it for baseboards, chair rails, etc, but it will be fine for use as crown in my bathrooms, laundry room, & spare bedrooms.

After I get it cut, Im putting it up with industrial strength velcro, then tacking nails every other stud lol. Its light weight foam, so...

Will make it easy to do by myself.

I had some of that foam stuff, used as baseboards in my basement. It was good enough for a basement (and like you said bathrooms, spare bedrooms, etc.) but it was attached to moldy sheet rock so I ripped it all out. The previous owners covered the basement in sheetrock but did not patch any cracks in the walls and did not replace any of the crumbling mortar so it all had to come out. Plus, I don't have a sump and there should not be any sheetrock down there until a sump is in place.

One of the few things the previous owners did right in my basement is they put up a false floor in half of the basement. That is where I have my band rehearsal/home studio area. It's elevated a good 4 inches above the original floor so I feel better about having my gear down there.

What is this "tax return" you speak of? Not familiar. I get a "tax BILL" every year. Is that what you're referring to?

OBAMA!

BTW I don't give them that much credit. It's probably due to me ticking boxes that they didn't even have in place yet like education credits etc. IMO it's good old fashioned IRS/Turbotax incompetence.

I went to the IRS tax office physically: It was a 6 hour wait.

I owed the fed govt. $3.00 and got $100 back from the state. Which in my mind basically means I was getting almost all my money per check instead of giving the govt an interest free loan for a year.

Yeah. I'll be so glad to have my shit done. Im sick of doing home improvement / renovation / rebuild..blah.

And my wife wonders why I hate watching "This Old House" and other shows like that. It's one thing when you ENJOY doing that shit. It's another when you GOTTA do it. Dont get me wrong, if I can learn something to help me on a project, so be it..otherwise..turn the goddamn channel lol.

I've been rocking that shit...I spent the last few weeks painting the outside of my house after work.

I had fun with it. Paintmageddon. The brush flies through the fog of war...Paintmageddon.
