I like some of it, but I cant listen to it all the time. I respect guys like Malmsteen, Via, and Satriani as guitar players, but I can only take it in small parts. I'm more of a meat & taters kinda guy.

Yep. Generally speaking, the wank wizards bore me quickly. They get too caught up in showing off technical skill they lose sight of what music is about.

Guitar stuff where the whole song is a solo like Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, etc - I find it pretty boring.

I think another reason why the "guitar music" stuff doesnt jive with me, would be the sound / tone of it. Im not dogging those guys, but their sounds seem "thin" & over processed to me. Im sure theres alot of it that I have not heard, that sounds good, but the lot that I've listened to has always seemed thin & tinny. Kinda like cheesey / bad 80's tone.

Not saying everything has to be thick / punchy bass heavy percusssive tones... but really britght over processed single note ice pick stuff just doesnt sound right to me.

That's because they often times don't have musical ears. They don't "know" or "feel" good tone, it's all about being more technical than the last guy.
