do these rhythm guitars need editing?

I posted this in the map forum, but this might be also a good place to post this:

I am in the process of finishing my 1st EP, and I am in a bit of a dilemma:

So far I have never done any editing on the guitar tracks in terms of going into the wave forms and splicing them and inserting silences.

While I do like the super tight sound of modern metal, I think for my own stuff I personally prefer a kind of old school thrash production sound (even if the music I play might be more modern rather than old school thrash).

Do you guys think the rhythm guitars on this need to be edited to get them tighter or are they fine as they are?

I'd appreciate your guys' opinions.

But are you referring to the distorted-chugging rhythm guitars?
I thought if anything they needed to go down in the mix.

I guess it depends on the context of the rest of the song and the style of music you are pursuing. With the clean guitars as loud as they are, they become the focal point for me as opposed to a bit of flavor thrown in with the meat. Listening to just this short clip it seems you're going for a more progressive sound/style. I'd be interested to hear the finished work, whenever you get it completed.

I might try re-tracking with more aggressive gate-settings to see if that gets me better results.

That's the great thing about recording. Retrack, edit what you've already got down then A/B them and see what you like best. Good luck and I'd really like to hear it once it's finished.

I been listening closely to my latest version, and I'm not sure if the timing is right. It somehow sounds off to me but when I concentrate on the rhythm guitars and the kick only, then it sounds as if the timing is accurate

Anybody of you noticed the timing of the rhythm guitars being a bit off on this latest version?
Or am I going crazy? Might as well be, since I have probably recorded about 60 takes or more of these rhythm guitars trying to get them accurate, but I tihnk my timing is still not spot on.

Ya just listen to the snare hits. There are some parts where they just don't sync. I'm cursed with the timing ear. Comes from all the years I've spent editing bad guitar parts.

On this riff though, doesn't it make more sense to listen to the kick rather than the snare, since the kick is supposed to play the exact same rhythm as the guitars....
