Released a new Hard Rock/Classic Rock song, very grungy
Curious what the toan gods on here think of this song I recently made with my band project.
GEAR:
VOX AC30 w/ Blue alnico speakers CRANKED
Mexican Fender Strat
Dunlop Fuzz Face
Only used 1 Shure SM57 microphone (recorded each instrument 1 at a time) for everything including the drums which was very sad but, for the most part I like to think that despite limited gear it turned out very good.
Thoughts? I was going for a Nirvana/Neil Young feel with a hint of Hendrix. I wrote it, recorded and mixed .etc I play the guitars/bass so you can be extra critical of me haha

Good job I like it. Sounds a bit like early Lemonheads minus the vocals. Nice work for one mic.

Thanks for the feedback boys. Teh VOX AC30 (the CC2 I believe) is beautiful at high volume levels

Great tune and vibe. The lead at the end got too dissonant for my tastes, but otherwise I really liked it.

Bring the bass and drums up or take the guitars down. Bass doesn't seem to have much power in the mix.

I'd agree with this in that the bass guitar isn't really fattening up the sound much so if you can go back and bring it up a bit I'd do that
BUT.. the song on the whole is very cool, music wise it has that Neil Young vibe for sure IMO and the AC30 and Fuzz Face combo sounds great.

I had a lot of trouble mixing and setting EQ for the bass. I didn't have many options in the program I used (8 tracks on Sequel LE2) but agree that the bass came out sounding quite lame

Thanks dude. By dissonant I assume you mean high right? And yeah I agree, was thinking about translating the solo to a bit lower on the fret as its very hard to replicate the same sound live.

Thanks man, I didn't sing on it so I'll be sure to tell my buddy who did the vocals haha. Also surprised to see this up on the active topics too as its quite old!

I dig the tune altogether. I agree that the solo could use a little polishing but I also like a lot of the rough around the edges vibe it maintains throughout so don't change the overall essence. Also the tones are great for the style.

Re: Released a new Hard Rock/Classic Rock song, very grungy
For using one mic on each instrument, it really has an excellent sound. Cool song which i enjoyed listening to.
If still in mixing phase, getting bass guitar and drums a little up in the mix (or bring the rhythm guitar tracks down a drop) as that's only thing that stood out a little out of balance (at least through these krk rp5 monitors). If there isn't already compression on the bass guitar track, experimenting adding a little can help get it perceived higher and punchier in mix as opposed to just raising the level.
