Doing some research for a friend of mine getting ready to drop some coin on a decent preamp/interface setup. He wanted to do the Focusrite 18i20 with a 2-channel standalone preamp. I am looking into the RME OctaMic II for him, since the RME has top-shelf preamps built into it, is USB 3.0 capable and can do up to 192 kHz sample rates all in one unit, instead of having to connect multiple units. Then, if he wants to expand later, he can get another OctaMic and Lightpipe it into the other one for 16-channels of RME goodness.
Thoughts?
Anyone have experience with the RME OctoMic II or XTC?
