Using the IRT studio's USB to record. FIXED

Post by Ostinato Rubato »

I failed. I couldn't get it to work for recording. I'm using DI XLR out for the time being, and I'll just continue using it if it sounds better than going USB but if USB is better then idk what I'm doing wrong.

Advice?

There's probably drivers for it on Laney's website. When you plug it in, does Windows start doing the whole "Installing your new device" thing? If so, does it actually say "Laney IRT Studio" or whatever or does it say "Unknown audio device" or something like that? If the latter (or if nothing happens), then you probably don't have the drivers. If it's via USB then it's basically its own audio device and the computer will see it as a sound card/audio interface.

Windows said it had installed the driver but I found nothing. I'll not be an idiot and check Laney site for a driver.

Hmm, I read that some guys have had success downloading the ASIO4ALL driver and using it that way in their DAW.

Yeah I need to get on that. The IRT doesn't like phantom power so it presents a legitimate problem now for me to run it DI into my interface since I've been starting to record myself singing and playing at the same time to a drum track. I can use my SM57 or SM58 fine for this but it would ultimately be more ideal to run my condenser.

It'd be cool to hear it when it is done.

I'll do this this weekend. I wonder if it sounds any different than going in DI with the XLR out... :hmm:

Well one cool thing is that it appears to be like the Yamaha THR's USB out - it can record a dry DI and a processed signal simultaneously which is very useful IMO

yes it send the effected signal to the right (i think) and the unaffected to the left, for reamping. Which will definitely come in handy with laying down performances for projects but going back later and re-tracking for tone.

Another cool thing is you can just drop an amp sim+impulse on that dry signal and bam you instantly have moar tones

So this is fucking working now, and it's awesome. It's so fucking cool to just run in on a USB cable and it does in fact sound significantly BETTER than running the XLR DI into my interface. You get that dry signal for reamping on the left and the IRT affected signal on the right. ASIO for all enabled input from the IRT and kept output through the Mackie for monitoring. Awesome.

It runs more efficiently and I can therefore set my Latency lower. This was awesome. Thanks for the help dudes. Last night was a total geek out.

Hi RUBATO!

Bumping the post...

I have the same issue. I am able to record via the XLR out or the head SEND to my audio interface (Focusrite Scarlett 2i2), but I am unable to use the USB..
PC sees it as generic usb audio, but I cannot map the usb outputs into the DAW, as the audio interface does not recognize them.

Using the ASIO4ALL i would have to uninstall the Focusrite Drivers...

Do you know if there is a way to make that mapping somehow without ASIO4ALL?

Thanks!

Nope. I've sold mine since then and found that the latency through USB was super high anyway so I never used it. I ran it direct into the interface.

But in general ASIO4ALL is excellent and you shouldn't worry about uninstalling the focusrite drivers. Give it a shot. Easily reversable if you don't like ASIO4ALL.
