New guy from Canada !!!

Post by Bluesician1994 »

Hey guys new to the board I came here to ask if anybody has some ideas for a new amp for me !! I'm selling off my current rig which is too heavy for my new style of playing ! I'm looking for a lower wattage (30 or less ) combo amp with the ability to do clean to rock ... Mostly the blues style like srv,John Mayer, Clapton , Hendrix and some classic rock stuff the heaviest I'll go is probably something in the vein of Alice in chains ... My main needs are
Reverb
Mid low wattage
effects loop
Tubed
2 channels
Combo
If you guys can help me out then let me know !!! Thanks everyone

Welcome! - and the first thing that springs to mind is a Peavey Classic 30.
All over the used market - and still available new.

Welcome to the fold brother!
This is the best guitar/amp site on the interwebz.

Too bad you must have tubes...
Otherwise, I'd recommend a used, 1980´s Randall RG 80.

Since you need tubes, +3 for the Peavey Classic 30. Or, a Fender Deluxe Reverb is a good choice.

I was going to say that, but wasn't sure if they had a loop or not.

The DRRI does not have a loop, but they don't need one, imho. Pedals sound great going straight into the front of the amp.

What kind of settings will this amp be used for, bluesician? Bedroom? Stage? Little of both?

Welcome to GAB, btw!

Awesome ! I'll check these out I feel very welcome here thanks for the love!! There was a few amps I liked that only had 1 channel ... I seen a milkman creamer 20w that sounded great the otherday but I haven't researched it much ... Most of those boutique amps don't have effects loop and only have 1 channel !

DRRI is a great amp but besides not having a loop (agree not needed with pedals tho) it's also not 2 channel. OP what is your price range? That makes a huge difference. Peavey classic 30 and fender hot rod deluxe can both be had very cheap used and are solid amps (and fit your needs). There are many more expensive options too.

Cool man - and this is a good place, even when people aren't "nice" they are usually just trying to be funny.

Anyway, the DRRI will sound a bit neutered at bedroom levels unless you have a decent compressor/limiter in your setup (or you don't mind pissing off the neighbors, lol). With your guitar volume cranked, the notes really start to bloom around 3 on the volume dial of the DRRI, it starts to get dirty just after 4, and then increased saturated goodness the rest of the way.

I use a DRRI for all my shows, but rarely turn it on at the house. :idk:

I have a Mesa boogie mini recto and a studio preamp rn and I just noticed when I plugged directly into my amp it sounded better than with pedals ! So I decided to get rid of some pedals and the put some in the effects loop and it just sounded way better to me ! I don't know if that's the case for all amps !

It's the case for most decent amps. Tube amp gain will usually sound better than pedal gain, but there are PLENTY of exceptions. Certain effects will typically sound better in the loop, which are reverb, delay, and EQ's typically. Gain and modulation effects will usually sound better out front.

Check out Traynor too, made in your Canada. I have the YCS-50 combo and play the styles you listed. Has Reverb, effects loop, tubes, and 2 channels. 50W but it has a switch to bring it down to 25W.

Welcome to the board!

I use the joe satriani delay and my original polychorus from the 70s in the effects loop and they sound fantastic ! I then use my overdrive and q tron+ right into the front of the amp !
