My DroidX is dying! What do I want for a replacement?

Post by draelyc »

Srs. Screen is damaged from droppage & the phone is constantly freezing & needing rebooting. Time for a new phone. Wut git? :idk:

Btw, don't need run-a-multinational-corporation-remotely type functionality, but I text as much as or more than I talk, and I do roughly half my web surfing via smartphone, so those are my "requirements."

Tnx!

Don't mind my Samsung Galaxy S3. It can text, it can do the internet, it takes nice pictures, it can play games, it has e-mail and it even works as some sort of device which allows you to project and receive sounds to other people over great distances.

Those are nice! Decided not to upgrade this time around but the Razr really tempted me.

Point taken, Zach!

Honestly, I've been thinking about going over to the Dark Side & trying an iPhone ... none of the folks I know who've got one have reported any reliability or freezing up issues, and that's what I'm just about sick of with the DroidX.

I honestly don't get the hate for the iPhone. You have these Android fanbois all about customizing your phone WTFLOL. It's perfect for my needs, that I rarely use the laptop these days.

The really funny/sad part is that I have not the 1337 ski11z to customize crap on my Droid, so I might as well go the iRoute, ya?

Common customization "pros" of Android users is that you can jailbreak the phone and modify the battery settings to last longer. I simply remedied that problem by having backup chargers at the apartment, car and work plus a Trent charger case my friends gave me for my birthday last year. Maybe if they cut down on using facebook and netflix, they wouldn't worry about battery life.

For me, it's that certain things are easier to do. Dragging and dropping files, from ANY computer, without using iTunes, is pretty cool.

The phones are very close though, so there is no winner or loser, well, except for that Navigation debacle and screen size. I've often thought of going to an iPhone, it is a bit smoother, admittedly, than my S III at times, but I'd hate to be tied to iTunes/Apple store for content. I've gotten songs and albums cheaper from Amazon on average.

Who are you with? If it's Verizon, then upgrading with a new contract means your unlimited plan is DONE. I'll be scouring CL the next time I need a replacement.
Also, though I've sadly been suckered into buying Motorola phones the past couple of times, I'm not repeating that mistake again. Geez, I keep saying that. I should really take my own advice. Anyway, if for no other reason (though I have reliability complaints with moto, among others), then because they do have more app compatibility issues, IME.

Yeah, I'm with Verizon, but I think my unlimited plan is already done. In the middle of this latest term (or whatever you call it), I started receiving text messages about my data usage. That had never happened before, and it would be pretty impossible for them to calculate that I'd used, say, 75% of my data allowance if said allowance were "unlimited." :freak:

I recently got an iPhone 5. Unless you're playing vid games all the time or constantly using the GPS in it, the battery life is really good. We're talking easily 48 hours good even with a lot of email, web surfing and texting. With video games in the morning and evening I make it through a day pretty easily.

I did have a home button failure on mine in the first few weeks, but they say that's really rare on the 5. And they replaced it right away without any fuss so :idk:.

Ya, the iPhone 5 sounds like exactly what I prollly need to look at. Thanks.

I changed from DroidX to Samsung Galaxy S3 back in November. Much better device - fast, no crashing, camera/camcorder is good, screen is awesome, and didn't have to pay an arm & leg for the additional memory capacity.

That said, I'm not happy with using it as a music device - I'm running Poweramp, and it's ok, but the device has some kind of loose ground issue that makes it hum badly through my car stereo (using the 1/8" jack) whenever it's not actually sending sound out the jack. Start streaming something, playing mp3s, or taking / making calls, and it's no problem. Quick Google search shows me that it's not just my problem. I wired up an inline noise filter that helped, but it's not what an iPhone/iPod would be.
