Bc leaving your house at 6 pm to ride and the setup and not getting back until 5 am sucks bawlz. At $100 pay for me to sit in, it ain't worth it. My ideal situation is a jazz/ instrumental 3 piece over in the corner of a restaurant, making the same $, with much better hours and much better setup/takedown.

Well, okay! You didn't give me all the variables and had me run the equation anyway, eh? :cop:

J/k ~ I totally hear you about that not being worth it! At my age, the hours are often a bigger consideration than the money!

So basically your part of the gig is to fuck rhythm and play leads? Sounds righteous.

This is the exact phrasing I'm gonna use in all my gig negotiations from now on.

Update:

Ok, Friday and Sat night now. I'm in for this weekend and going to keep good on my word.

4 hours of playing. One show is outta town and probably playing from 10-2, but add in travel and setup/tear down I'm gone from 7 pm and probably coming back around 4 am. That sucks. The other gig I don't mind so much; 8-12 pm and should b home around 1:00 am.

I've had my share of coming home when the sun is coming up and I don't miss it. Takes 2-3 days for me to fully recover. Like Danny Glover once said, " I'm getting too old for this shit."

Love playing though, just not playing late.

For the time invested that money sucks. But hey, it can still be a fun gig if you do it for the love of it.

Agreed. The plus side is that here is an awesome PA and lights show with this band. It is really fun when we play. The downside is that all that stuff has to be setup and taken down. Add in long hours and you get diminishing returns. I like playing but I can afford to be picky. Ideally, for a rock band, setup in 30 mins, rock out for 3 hours and then go home. I would prefer just chilling in the corner of a restaurant in a jazz or instrumental 3 piece and leaving at 10:00 not starting at 10:00.

I'm 34 and don't want to stop music, I just don't want it to stop me. I also like home projects and chilling with the family.

Worst case - you play the gig and hate it. Well, then you know you're not going to play any more of them. Best case - it could end up being a lot of fun and worth the time spent. Who knows. Regardless, report back and let us know how it went.
