Played On A Mesa F30 This Weekend

Post by afxwinter »

My buddy (drummer) and I rented out a rehearsal room on Saturday and I got to test drive the F30 that they had there. I only had my 607b, my Legend of Fuzz and my Flashback Fuzz with me.
The cleans on the amp were really nice, and the footswitchable reverb was definitely usable.
The crunch channel was surprisingly good, and could even get into metal territory when I cranked the gain a bit.
I didn't like the contour mode very much.. it was way too grainy sounding for me.
I found I had to turn the bass all the way down on both channels and crank the mids all the way. I had the treble up pretty high too. This could be because I was tuned to drop F# though.
I had the master at about 1/3 I think. It didn't have any problems keeping up with the drums.
The amp took my fuzz pedals pretty well. Had me grinning a few times.
This is the first chance I've had to play on a real amp with a real drummer in a few years so all in all it was a hell of a lot of fun.

*TLDR - Mesa F30's a fun little amp and sounds surprisingly good* ;)

I used to have an F30 combo. Nice amps.

I wanted a little more gain and replaced mine with a Mark III.

I had an F30 head for a while. I really liked it, and I totally regret selling it.

I had 2 F30 combos. Love those amps. Ran a boost up front and EQ, chorus, delay and reverb in the loop, and I got sick tones. I later got an extension closed back Thiele with Celestion MC90 black shadow, and the amp got even more sick tone, and chunk. Beautiful cleans, nice 80s thrash tones, and heavier. My only complaint was that I couldn't get a tight low end, even with an EQ. It was always a tad flabby. But, regardless, the lead tones were liquidy, greazy EL84 goodness, wound up. Very responsive, harmonically rich. Killer tones in them things. Always said Id grab an F30 head if one popped up at a good price.
