If you spend $100 dollars on a logo, you get a $100 logo design. Just saying.

I am not a graphic designer but I do work for a marketing agency. We fix $100 logos all the time for unhappy clients that bought theirs online from a "get a logo for $99!" type of company.

Maybe there is a good graphic artist on the board that will cut you a break on some side work. I recall hearing that happening in the past.

Van_Muddlestein does good work.

Not really. I needed a vid intro for a company I started to release my own music/short movies.

I got this on fiver for $5:

It's amazing what you can get on there.

And a forumite (Dolf) designed my logo and I googled artists who let me use their work for a CD and a tshirt.

www.geoffmay.com ;)

Of course I'm not cheap. The old adage of "you get what you pay for" rings true. If you pay $100, expect to get a simple logo with a dumb font that everyone uses. You're not just paying for the work done, but also for the time and research and the person's experience level. Just sayin'.

Do you do rough drafts first cause im also not paying $500 for a logo I don't like even if you spent lots of time on it.

I don't do anything for free, so even rough drafts are billed. But yeah, I do preliminary sketches.

I charge around $90/hr. More for major label bands. That said, I don't just do rough drafts without having a project locked down. Otherwise what's to stop someone from taking my sketches and handing them off to a designer who will do them for peanuts?

Welcome to the real world...He's a professional artist...He works for professional clients...In the professional business world, things are almost always billed hourly...You get a rough draft done of ideas you've discussed, and the artist sketches what you had discussed...You request changes/additions, and he does another sketchup...After that he finishes it up, presents it to you and bills you for the hours invested.

Nothing comes for free or cheap in the real world...

Let me ask you this, what do you do for a living? If it's anything requiring skill, you wouldn't just give someone a 100 dollar invoice, and then realize you had to put 20+ hours into the project to meet the customers needs, right?

Right.

Sidenote: Judging by your posts, you are a client I'm willing to wager money on that Facefirst wouldn't want to work with anyway...There are certain types of people you just turn down because of the headaches involved...No offense, but you seem like one of those.

Any professional designer works that way. For logo/branding I usually bill hourly, unless it's an extenuating circumstance. Honestly, I don't even normally provide my client with sketches. I usually come to them with a handful (5 at the very most) of concepts that are 90% finished. If I'm bringing sketches to a client then they're helping me do my job, which is Art Director and Designer. Someone hires me because they know I can give them the results they're after based on my portfolio and they know they don't need to micromanage and interfere with the creative process. Sure, there might end up being some small revisions, which isn't uncommon, but I'm always able to deliver a concise piece that is what the client envisioned without having to have them involved in the process from concept through completion.

Please don't take my tone as arrogance, as anyone who knows me knows I'm anything but. That said, that's how it is for me.

He's pretty much right on with what he's saying about the professional side of things. For instance, if I call a plumber I don't need him to walk me through what he's going to do and how he's going to do it. I trust that he will get the job done and I pay him. In any field people build a reputation and they get more (or less!) work based on that reputation.

There's two kinds of artists in my opinion - Those who keep their artist integrity and those that pay their bills. The only client I ever turned down is Wal-Mart because I don't agree with their business practices. If making shitty music was their only crime, I'd be cool with that.
