Thinking of downsizeing 60W>15W 4x12>2x12

I REALLY love my IRT60H and it has such a great sound with the band; but man is it a pain in the arse to lug around (it has its own flight case). As much as this would be both epic soundwise and to look upon live, it isn't exactly fun to take to rehearsals/gigs.

We play pretty much any venue, and a 4x12 with a big amp on it with another guitarists guitar, a bassists, and a drummers on a small stage seems ridiculous/ pretty much not doable. Larger gigs aren't such a problem, but it is the smaller ones that make such a large rig seem pointless.

So I was thinking of getting a Laney Cub12R Head and either a 2x12 cab or a 1x12 cab. I know it won't be as powerful/loud but it should be able to compete with everything else at rehearsal (the other guitarist uses a Dark Terror and that is 15W). It makes more sense to me to take the burden away and make gigging easier so I can enjoy playing more.

This seems like the right course to take, what do you think?

Ultimately it's down to the sound and how you like to set your amp.If you're pushing the power amp, there will be difference between 60 and 15 watts but both will still be loud - you'll probably end up running them at about the same volume most of the time. Some people like small amps pushed with the more spongy and soft bass and compressed tone that gives, some would prefer to turn a bigger amp down and have the headroom to still have tight bass and dynamics.

It's really just down to which one feels better at your typical playikng volume. Though if the weight is an issue, the small amp has an obvious advantage.

Personally for the most part I enjoy 2x12 open back cabs. For closed back cabs, I feel like all else being equal the bigger it is the better it sounds if it's punch and girth you're looking for. A 1x12 will generally sound whimpy in comparison to a 4x12, just because of the size of the box and the fact that all the amp's power is going into one speaker. Between a 2x12 and a 4x12 the 2x12 will tend to be a bit less directional, a bit more compressed, have bass that you can feel but probably won't punch you in the chest, and generally feel a bit more midrangy.
