Yes there can be too much gain... I've been hanging weights from my dong and now it drags on the floor.

So does mine, now that I lost both legs to a shark attack.

High gain amp chasing kicked my ass over the years but there were some very cool moments looking back. :)

moar is betterer.

Never enough.

Unless you're playing with others. Then yeah...it's EASY to have too much.

If you're just playing with yourself in your room, more gain is more better.

You can never have enough gain. I use a 5150 lead channel for cleans.

for my tastes, lower gain in a full band sounds heavier.

I think there's kind of a sweet spot, especially in a two guitar band where there's another person fighting for space in your same frequency range. Too little gain means I have no sustain in the mix and I find myself hitting the guitar waaaaaay too hard, especially with single notes. Too much gain means I fill the mix, which means I become the mix, and I'll be damned if I'm gonna be the carpet while other people are dancing. :idk:

the way i do it is keep the gain low on both guitars, have the bass take care of the low end, one guitar take care of the low mids/ mids, and the other guitar take care of the upper mids/highs. setting it up like that and then having our cabs arranged properly onstage helps make things sound big and full as fuck without anyone instrument taking over someone else's space. it kinda sounds weird, and it took me a long time to get it all figured out, but it's pretty cool now.

Not if you divide 'more' by 3.72 and then subtract the coefficient and then add a handshake :o
