I have to see Ben Folds tonight

Post by BroSlinger »

Doing a crash course right now. He's talented, but it's not really my jam. It's kind of like geeky alterno-pop for girls.

I guess I need to have a few drinks. Maybe I'll know some people at the show.

What do you guys think of Ben Folds?

He's a bad motherfucker but I gotta be in the mood for that style of music. I would take my woman to that show. And I would drink a lot of beer.

I fucking love Ben Folds.
Not in love with 100% of what he's done but the stuff I like I really love.
Naming his trio the Ben Folds Five is exactly what I like so much about Ben, that his sense of humor.

I think he's one of those you get it or you don't in that way but I'm definitely on the get it side and would be thrilled to see him live.

It's not that I don't get it, it's just not a dirge of slow, instrumental, depressing fuzz with melodic tears of blood.

I really dig him, but I'm into that shit.

I've always really liked this Elliott Smith tribute song he did.

Its a song about teenagers getting an abortion.

Chorus goes "She's a brick and I'm drowning slowly, off the coast and I'm heading nowhere" etc.
Pretty dark and heavy (emotionally speaking) for a pop song.

The music usually has a nautical sound to it; like the timbre of the strings and piano. Like hipster pirates who look like rivers cuomo.

I like him but I think that he and I might have a similar sense of humor. Loved his music in Over the Hedge.

Sounds good live in a small venue from what I've seen.

So it was really flipping good. Guy is a beast on the piano. I had no idea he was like virtuoso good.

That would be a fun show. I've always enjoyed seeing him play live on tv. Bunch of my friends in college were music majors who were into him.

Not something I'd typically seek out but always enjoy it when I hear it.
