I'm not really too aquainted with their stuff, but It must be because it's got some "Faith No More" and "Mr Bungle" ripping off going on. That's a really good tone too... makes me want a Mark V even more.

lol at ripping off Faith No More and Mr Bungle. That's because Mike Patton was the original singer when Irony Is Dead EP came out! Greg came after and he's one hell of a frontman... batshit crazy too. Miss Machine and Option Paralysis are my favorites.... haven't really gotten around to listening to the latest one yet.

oops, a little misinformation there. The first singer quit and while they were searching for a new one, Mike Patton and a few others stepped in to make an EP with the rest of the band:

"Irony Is a Dead Scene EP (2002–2003)

Without a vocalist, The Dillinger Escape Plan began a nationwide search for a replacement via their website, releasing an instrumental version of "43 % Burnt" from Calculating Infinity and inviting prospective vocalists to record and submit their own vocal tracks.

While the search was underway, vocal duties were handled by a number of the band's friends, including Sean Ingram of Coalesce and Mike Patton, who agreed to help the band produce an EP. The plan to record with Patton was in place before a replacement vocalist had been found. By the time Mike Patton had recorded vocals and the EP was released, the band had been touring with Minakakis's replacement, Greg Puciato, for nearly a year.

The group released their first EP via Epitaph Records, titled Irony Is a Dead Scene.[6] It features Weinman, Pennie, Benoit, Wilson, and Mike Patton on vocals, with ex-bassist Adam Doll assisting with keyboards and sample effects. It marked Doll's last appearance with the band, until he returned to contribute briefly towards Option Paralysis. The EP contains three original songs and a cover of electronic music artist Aphex Twin's "Come to Daddy". Buddyhead Records released the EP in a limited vinyl version."

yeah Calculating Infinity came out in '99 with their original singer Dimitri , Mike Patton became a fan of the band and asked them to tour with Mr Bungle, all the touring was too much for the original singer so he left. They found Greg and were touring with him but had recorded the EP with Mike, Greg has been on all releases since. I think all their releases are pretty solid.

Ya, i own the EP they did with Patton and it's the only album I heard from them before this new one. The Title track has got a great hook and reminds me alot of something Patton would do. Most of the other stuff has got some crazy rhythmic stuff going on with it, but it's a very clear tone. I like it a lot.

Yeah, Patton was not the original singer. .

But DEP can almost be broken down to before patton/after Patton.. lol

I loved everything with Dimitri. Loved the Patton fronted EP. Some absolutely violent fucking material on there!

I only know the current guys name because of this thread.. lol. Although, he works out good live. But until this last record, i did not like anything with him on it. I think the new one is awesome, and he's still trying to be Patton, but i think he finally found his way as well.. Cause before, it felt forced and contrived. But he killed it on this record. Its been in my car 6 disc changer for months on end ..

Miss Machine is an incredibly underrated record. Their live shows back in the day were an insane. I saw them at Emo's a few times. On one occasion some dude jumped on stage, grabbed Ben from behind, and literally suplexed him into the crowd. Guitar came unplugged and all kinds of shit. Was pretty fucking epic.

I love this album way more than the new Mastordon, that's for sure. Better guitar tone and vocals too.

Yeah, Dillinger rules. Miss Machine and Ire Works are my favorites but One of Us is the Killer is a close 2nd.
