For God's sakes; get some vocal processing, Mastodon

LOVE LOVE LOVE 'em. Especially as I get older and my old man, cover band playing a$$ gives less and less of a f**k about finding "new" artists that move me. For as much flak as they get for their live vocals; would it hurt to invest in some vocal processing of some sort? No one in the band is an actual "singer" yet they have a ton of melodies and it would be nice to hear a live clip with the vocals they deserve. The clip above is ok; but that chorus melody needs a lot more power than a winded drummer can provide. Not saying they should play with vocal tracks, but man; I would assume they have a soundman hired to fix these kind of issues. I know it's a :horse: but srs.

Their tone has gotten worse over the years. I didn't mind the vocals so much, though admittedly it could have sounded more powerful. One more thing: that solo sucked balls.

Perfect match on CD, IMO. Just wish they added a little studio magic to the live vox is all. On an a completely unrelated note; there is a guy selling an LP like yours on another forum. It is drool inducing to say the least.

I suppose things are a bit rougher live  I've only caught them once, but if seemed to be one of their better days based on vids I've seen.

And buy that shit asap!

not bad. my only complaint is every live clip i've seen they are just looking down at their guitars and standing still. seems like a boring show but i still like them a lot.

Super boring.
I used to like Mastadon, then I saw them live.
I literally almost fell asleep I was so bored. Didn't help that Gojira played before them and absolutely blew them out of the water.

I like them a lot, but they are definitely a studio band. Live it's not just meh, but typically quite bad.

Man I had a blast when I saw them. Killer show for sure. Sure I thought gojira put on a better show, but I like gojira more than mastodon anyway, so I was already expecting that before hand

IMO the music itself isn't something that just is crazy good live. It's too groovy. I dunno. I have the live Crack the Skye show but that's just b/c that album was so good. I saw them at Rock on the Range and they were quite dull.

Watching this vid now. Lol wow this is bad.

Thats the thing to me though, if you can't do it live your album is a sham and you're a dishonest musician. :idk:
Will seriously never forget almost falling asleep during their set and being very ready for it to be over.
Not to mention hipsters loving Mastadon because they think its ironic to like "metal."

Tbh the vocals sound like shit on the albums too so :idk: musically they've always been on point or better live based on videos and what I've seen

Hipsters ruin everything. Besides, I'd hardly even call mastodon metal anymore, sounds more like 70's acid rock lol

I don't think it's bad-bad; I just think for such an ear grabbing melody you would want some vocal power behind it. I think Mastodon is too popular now for Hipsters to give a f**k about. That seems to have moved on to other bearded, "Metal but we won't call it that" groups that I am too old to care about

I think musically they perform great (in general). I wish they would "musical-sham" it up a bit in the vocal area if anything to make those vocals sound good

The fem's uproar about The Motherload vid has been hilarious. It's def NSFW, but it's funny. Has nothing to do with the song, and just a lotta azz shakin'. But, these guys are from ATL so it's not surprising that's their "thing" lol.

I still like them though.

I liked this performance though. The song is really cool. The vocals were fine, maybe the mix could have been better but most TV shows have crappy mixes anyway.

Brent solo was  I like his style a lot.

Nothing lame about it if it's kept to a minimum; maybe some doubling as well to thicken it up a bit.

It makes music sound robotic and fake. I can't stand it at all and it has no place in rock. They're a metal band, they don't need great vocals.

I've actually never listened to Mastadon until this thread. Checking out the album that this song is from. Good stuff. I can dig.
