I have a JC 2x12 and I'd say the stock Eminence speakers are far from being flat or neutral sounding.
That said, I'm happy with the cab itself. I chucked a pair of CL80s in there and have been chuffed with it. If the stock Eminence speakers happen to be to your taste, even better cost-wise. I didn't at all like the sound of 'em, but I bought the cab coz I needed something in a hurry, heard the JCA stuff was good, and assumed speakers wouldn't happen to suit what I wanted anyway. Not much really comes stock with CL80s.
Just buy used, you can find cabs at bargain pricing these days. Sometimes the prices I see used 2x12 sell for wouldn't even cover the price of the speakers sold separately. I picked up a cool old 80's era 1936 2x12 for $265 with uk made Celestion 65's. Avatar makes nice stuff for the dough if u really wanna buy new.

I'm tempted to try one of those Seismic Audio 2x12's. They're REALY cheap. Ive read that they really arent that bad. They are real plywood..just not thick plywood.

My cousin has one. Not a bad cab, but my Randall shit all over it.

Yeah. I thought about snagging one & seeing if I could improve it a bit. (some extra bracing to help with resonance..and the usual re-tightening of screws. Ive taken cabs that sounded like hell & made great improvements to them just by snugging things up a bit. You can pull the front baffle out & re-screw it, with the screws ran down in order...like how you tighten down lug nuts on a car... and it will snug things up alot better. Then some thin rubber or foam where bracing meets up to panels. It can be a pain in the ass, but it helps. I had a MFPOS cab made by SLM (I dont know if it was a Crate, or an Ampeg from that era) that I did that to, and it sounded 100% better afterwards, and had the same speakers in it, as it did before I started on it.

You do not need to do anything to the JCA Cab...it is tight as an ant's arsehole............except the eminence speakers were designed by Solando to KILL the FIZZY's....JCA amps have lots of fizz.....so you Might not like the speakers.....to me they are a lot less bright than a Celestion CL90 for example.
Im part of a minority that LIKES eminence speakers. IMHO, they're KILLER with bright amps like Marshalls.
I have a 4x12 set up like a 2x12, that has an Eminence Delta 12B (bass speaker) coctailed with a Eminence Lynch Super V. I can roll my presence all the way off, & it still cuts just fine.

I love 'em. Tight, dark, loud, and (relatively) cheap.

I did that on an Avatar Traditional. It sounded like shit when I got it. The low end sounded like the cab was made from cardboard... All farty and loose...
I screwed some 1x1" boards into the corners and it did wonders... Doesn't sound as huge as my Contemporary but it works. In hindsight I wish I would have used some of those steel corner brackets instead of 1x1s... I think Mills uses those in their cabs.

Exactly. They tend to have more offerings in the "higher wattage" department as well.
They just take a little while to figure out, if you're used to speakers like Celestions.
And being relatively cheap, is the best part

I was actually thinking on scoring one of their 2x15 bass cabs, and dropping a pair 15" Eminence Legend 15s or Patriot Commonwealths in there for a 2x15 guitar cab to have.
