Back when I was in Jr High and High School so many people would say that Bonham was the best drummer that ever lived and I would always answer, that he couldn't hold Keith Moon's sticks... I love Led Zep, am a huge fan, but I too never saw the big deal in him. I thought his drum solo in The Song Remains The Same was one of the most boring I had ever seen...
He's definately not the best that ever lived. But he was an integral part of the most important rock group thus far imo. Zep would not have been what it became without that style he brought.
