Not really, mostly all junk mail these days. I get my mail once a week and throw
99% in the trash.

It is the most horribly run organization I had the displeasure of working for. USPS sucks dick. Shut it down!!!!!!!!
Re: It's official: no more saturday mail starting in august
It's inevitable, and yes, it'll suck for some of the employees.
Re: It's official: no more saturday mail starting in august
Oh no!! No more overtime for USPS employees that already make a buttload of money and have excellent pensions for what they do. Oh well.

I can't wait until the day comes that it goes out of business. I hate hate hate USPS. Their customer service is nonexistent. The times I've actually had to deal with them everyone always has a who gives a shit attitude and are completely clueless. Not to mention their package tracking is a joke.

If you actually read the article it says that it will be delivering packages six days a week still.

Post office is in trouble for the same reason that newspapers and magazines are in trouble.

Re: It's official: no more saturday mail starting in august
i dont think pensions are the entire issue. they are just doing less business and have too many offices and expenses for the money they bring in. the people at the top make a shit ton of money and it looks like they are just riding the wave down till it crashes. if they wanted to save the post office they could but it would not be pretty for many people.

Yeah. There should be a law against junk mail. I hate being solicited to.
What pisses me off more than junk mail? the new video advertisements in Wal Mart on the end caps of the aisles. Theyre loud & annoy the piss out of me.

sounds like every government/state/city job. i worked for my town for years, it was the most dysfunctional toxic work environment ive ever seen. its like these union guys look forward to making life miserable for themselves and everyone around them with the constant back stabbing and manufactured problems they create. i tried for years to get in there full time and i kept getting denied everytime cause of union issues, looking back now the best thing that ever happened to me was not getting in there full time.

Re: It's official: no more saturday mail starting in august
Hi...
I'm a mailman. 20 years now. I walk 12 miles a day. So far I've walked well over the circumference of the Earth. If I retire now I should be getting around 500 or so a month in pension. I would have loved to have had weekends off when my daughter was growing up, but I'll take it now.
If I understand right, the PO is the only company required by law to Prepay into it's pension fund for people not even retired yet. Something like 5 to 7 billion a year I think? The office where I work in a small to medium size town is open 6 days a week, until 6 on weekdays and 4:00 on Sat.

Re: Change in saturday mail ...
I receive today 10x less mail than I used to 10 years ago, and it's even worse if I look back 20 years.
All my bills are paid online, I no longer subscribe to any paper magazines and I rarely write anyone a letter, basically I use the mail for packages only, which I only send/receive a few times a month, and not always through USPS.
I wouldn't say it's a dying business because a country will always need some kind of "official" mail service. But it's a shrinking business for sure.

A few months ago I ordered some pickup magnets to do some experimenting with my SD C5. I wanted them for the weekend when I had some time to play around. They came on Saturday USPS.

Re: Change in saturday mail ...
Always thought at being a mailman would have been a cool job. Sucks that some of the last jobs that actually came with union protection, decent benefits and pension are becoming a thing of the past. We shouldn't begrudge them like crabs In a pot. In many cases its not so much that the pension funds aren't self sustaining, its that the government was using or borrowing money out of the pension fund that wasn't supposed to be touched.

Correction, its the fact they were required to pay something like 75 years of pension obligations in <20 years they are in so much trouble. Its artificially created trouble. Like most gov't things.

Social security IS fully funded, yet our lovely Congress won't pass a law forcing them to not steal from it. Stop thinking a corrupt Congress means the programs are broken.
