where to find 4ohm speakers??

Post by gb74 »

I've been wanting to upgrade the speaker on my practice amp (Marshall AVT50 1x12) and I am having a hard time finding anything rated 4ohms... most places only carry 8 or 16ohms... I am not even sure if there are a lot of guitar speakers being made with a 4ohm version?

A lot of guitar speakers are available in 4 ohm just not most Celestions. Lots of Eminences are. Here:

Yeah, I haven't had much luck with Emis though, they always sound a bit dull to my ears.

hmm.... I used T100's in the past and liked them quite a bit. I actually still have a 16ohm T100, I think I will try it in my amp and if I like the tone I will get the 4ohm version from Avatar.

Another thought is this: SS power sections are not terribly sensitive to speaker impedance mismatches. You could just go with an 8 ohm speaker. :idk:

It won't hurt it - but you won't get the rated power out of the amp.

It won't damage the amp but you're cutting the power in nearly half every time you double the impedance in a SS amp.

So the 50w @ 4ohm would be about 25w @ 8ohm and 12w @ 16ohm.

We should really do a Speaker Swap thread like the pickup swap thread.

Fucking IN. I have some sitting around.

I would love it if the thread were "swap speakers straight across for ones of roughly equal value, with each guy handling his own shipping," but I would post my stuff no matter what. Start the thread.
