Great White off the coast of Long Island.

Post by Musicscotty »

I don't know how much swimming goes on off the coast of Long Island, but I think it should be put on hold for a bit ....

Apparently scientists have been tracking a 16 foot, 3500 lb great white and the tracker has pinged it 200 yards offf the Long Island coast.

The problem is the tracker only pings when the dorsal fin breaks the surface.....

Also, who swims 200 yards out in February? That Shark is just looking for seals. Not to mention, from what I have heard, Great Whites do a lot of breading between Montauk and Block Island in the deeper holes out there.

So, no surprise.

This coulda been a terrific double entendre had you spelled breeding right. :cop:

Sharks are awesome. I used to study the giant sharks that were around pre '95 exists (dinosaur ages) and them were some bad-ass mutha-truckers. Some of them could suck that great white down like it was a minnow.

Yeah, I am half in the bag already. It's my day off.

Well ... It occured to me that if a great white had no problem swimming in that area - in the chilly February waters - it would have no issues when it was warmer ... when people were swimming.

I'm from the UK and we don't have great whites in our waters - despite having an ample food supply available. It again occurred to me that if a great white was happy in the cold February waters, it could easily adapt to the cold UK coastal waters.

Jaws has a lot to answer for :)
