New Rig Day!!! Mesa/Splawn Content

Post by JerEvil »

I had gotten my first Splawn Creamback loaded 2x12 in November and had ordered a second one back in December. Celestion was on backorder with the Creambacks and then Namm hit so there was a bit of a delay in getting my second cab. It showed up yesterday so that was awesome. I got the amp on Monday. This is my first time even playing a Dual Rec so I was a bit nervous.

Verdict ... loving it so far. Anyway, here's a few pics.

Any suggestions on dialing in tones? This shipped with 6L6's.

I got mine a few months back, but I admittedly haven't spent all that much time messing with the controls. I guess I got a great sound right off the bat, and dialed it in a little, and left good enough alone for now. I will say this, I like the orange channel the best.

I have it set on "spongy", tube rectifier, and the orange channel set on "vintage". Presence, Master, Bass, and Mid are all hovering around noon, gain at about 2 o'clock, and Treble at 1 o'clock. Of course, this is going through a Peavey Butcher 4x12 cab with G12K85s, so it's going to sound totally different through those 2x12s.

I gotta try this. Can I just throw any matched set in, or do I have to buy a set of Mesa tubes that are spec'd for the Rectifier?

I don't think it will hurt the amp or tubes because mesas are cold biased. Might not sound as good as nice matched set, but it can't hurt much AFAIK

No way man. A saw gives you a rougher tone and a butter knife with smooth the tone. No room for the steak knife.

I may try EL34's at some point. Want to get the real "lay of the land" first before dicking with it too much. I am very impressed with how good it sounds with the 2x12's.

Love these speakers.

I need some Tuki covers for the cabs though, or road cases. I am not a fan of "mojo'd" equipment.
