why doesnt anybody ever talk about Yngwie anymore?

Post by jnurp »

what a fucking BEAST!

yes his music is sometimes absolutely god awful to listen to, filled with dungeons and dragon memes but his vibrato and fluidity is just unmatched. Hes such a legend its beyond words. I remember as a kid listening to Rising Force for like a year straight without any relief. what a great album. hes such a BAUS.

I'd be lying if I didn't say Yngwie wasn't a major influence on me at one point, the guy is crazy talented but after a while it does get tiring to listen too. A little of Yngwie goes a long way for me, but the albums that I only really listen to from him are his first three or four albums. Marching Out is probably my personal favorite.

I guess my main problem with Yngwie is that after a certain point he never went anywhere different with his music. The guy can play anything if he wanted too. I would love to hear him just slow down for once, and not rely on the same harmonic minor/diminished licks he uses all the damn time. It's the same old same old from him album after album. He's so stuck in his ways and his ego has become so inflated that he has become a caricature of himself.

As much as I despised the glammy hair metal back in the 80s, Yngwie's debut totally kicked ass :rawk:

THIS!

He's got really great technique and about one or two passable songs and all the rest just sounds very much the same thing - diminished arpeggios and harmonic minor scale shredding. There's not much musicality to him.

I never could make myself get into it. constant weedly weedly weedly & awful razor thin 80's tone.

Talented, yes. Just not my thing.

This. Once you have the first three albums, you can stop there.

I like Blackstar and love hearing him play Hendrix tunes, but other than that I cant listen.
That said, he kind of proliferated a genre of guitar playing that made a lot of people a lot of money, so he deserves kudos I guess. :idk:

This is why it's so enjoyable to not talk about him.
I could spend hours not talking about Yngwie.

I liked his early stuff when it first came out, but then I lost interest in the whole neo-classical genre altogether. For the style, he's hard to beat though.
