Plus, turbos' are cool. For Rats and Hot Rods.

Both, it just depends what I feel like! At my gig this weekend it was a standalone distortion into the clean channel of my AC100, with the gain turned up. But with the gain lower, it works well as a boost because of the bass cut/mid boost that's quite prevalent at lower gains.
And the winner is the Rat 2. The Turbo has a more vocal midrange and headroom plus a bit more bass, but I found it's more aggressive barky buzz wasn't as good at lower gain overdrive settings or cranked up fuzzy madness.
The Rat is a must try pedal for every guitarist along with some sort of TS and the Boss DS-1/SD-1. Too many players jump into the boutique game without trying some of the common alternatives, myself included.
Analogman / Bludotone / Bogner / Fargen / Fender / G&L / JAM Pedals / King Tone / RMC / Skervesen / Strymon / Vertex

Absolutely.
That's why I love the Used GC site. It's a cheaper way to experiment and figure out which pedals work for you.
Shit, I paid $20 for my SD1. The next day, another popped up for $9.99. I was pissed.

GC used is way underrated. It can be a pain in the ass to get pictures or technical questions, but it is great for small ticket items.
GC used pro tip: Have cabinets shipped to a local GC for you to pick up and check the speakers while you are there to make sure they are what was listed.

One of these days I'll find me a RI big box rat. I want one I can tweak on. Plus, the big box reissue is easier to mount to a pedal board (and more room for switches, knobs etc).
My broe got a hell of a deal on one a few years ago. He gave like 35 bucks for it BC it had a bad switch. Turned out that it just needed a good cleaning.
