recording growl/ screamy vocals

Post by Elessar [Sly] »

I am guessing my 57 will work well for this. But what kind of effects work well on these kind of vocals? Think backing up growls and screams over singing.

I also have an Audix i5 and an MXL cardioid mic

I like the i5 over the 57 for screaming. Ugly high gain distortion with a high pass mixed in really really low works, preferably on a track send so you can adjust the amount more easily. Only use so much that you get a slightly brighter thicker sound, not so much that it sounds distorted.

Other than that, the usual eq-compression-(delay)-reverb. And double tracking.
