So, hypothetically, if'n I were gwine pick up a lil' combo
Y'know, a nice 1x12 for easy gigging & such ... would I look at something pretty different from my Plexi, like a Fender Super Sonic, or something a little "closer to home," like, say, a JCM 800 combo?
Not gonna be picking up anything new till after I get rid of the spam in my sig, but just thinking down the road... I really dug the Super Sonic I tried out in a local shop last year. But since I got the Plexi, I've become a compleat fanboi for the "Marshall tone." (I know the 800 is NOT gonna sound like a Plexi ~ and I wouldn't want two of my amps to sound exactly alike, anyway.)
I also know there are a metric ton of other great combos out there, but if y'all were deciding between these two, which way would you go ... y'know, hypothetically?

Vox AC15?
Or maybe even an old Traynor? Those are pretty cool.

I'd do the JCM 800. If you are getting the combo to be a highly portable rig, having something that is bulletproof like a 2203/2204 would make a ton of sense. Plus, it would allow you to keep very similar settings on your pedals.
Analogman / Bludotone / Bogner / Fargen / Fender / G&L / JAM Pedals / King Tone / RMC / Skervesen / Strymon / Vertex

Maybe a Mesa F50 or F30. Should compliment the Marshall pretty well. Compact and affordable these days. I am partial to Mesa clean tones.
I did just get a new DSL40C that I am loving. Does the Plexi cleans real well. But it does run very bright. I just swapped some different pre amp tubes in it for fun. But I do see myself putting a "darker" sounding speaker in it soon.

That's what I've been thinking. Actually, I've been thinking about one of the two channel versions -- I know, diodes are evil, but it's nice to have a dedicated clean for a cover band sitch.

Here's my theory on diodes: If I have a TS or another OD in my chain, how can I complain about them? It's one thing if they wreck the sound of the amp, but they don't.

I 'preciate the other suggestions, y'all, but what about choosing between the two I mentioned? Not saying my mind's made up or anything ... just curious about the consensus on these.

Re: So, hypothetically, if'n I were gwine pick up a lil' com
between the 2, I'd go with the JCM800 combo.
But what I would REALLY do is get one of the new DSL combos... either the 40 or 15w.

I don't listen well.
I love my JCM. I've never played a SuperSonic. But I love Fender cleans. That's a tough choice.
I say, F50

The supersonic doesn't have the fender cleans of old vintage fenders, that's for damn sure.
No, my 2554 isn't for sale. At all.
However, they do pop up from time to time and they also come in the sweet silver tolex if you watch for the coveted 87 model.
Or the dsl40c is a bad ass alternative, though I far preferred the Jubilee. Jubilee is thicker, punchier, more articulate and at the same time more liquidy for leads. The Jube combo also has an fx loop for your crazy pedals
The 800 combos aren't bad at all and I'd probably prefer them over the dsl40c for my style. I think for versatile cover band gigs the dsl40c may get the nod since they have reverb, and sound great.

The dsl40c can be had less than $700 brand new and you can trudge on down to your local gc to see what ya think :thu:
Then order from loop if you like it
