Back on the subject though, one thing I loved were the mega thread meltdowns and shitstorms. Probably won't get those here for a while though.
Re: what will you guys miss most about HCAF?

Honestly it was a really cool place but it wasnt the place that made it cool, it is the people. Seems like the people I care about are here and that's all that matters.

There is such a richness to said community, from lulz to expert advice, babes ad infinitum it's too big a task to list it all. Suffice it to say the outcry and backlash we've seen every time they fuck up the forum is telling enough.
O/T: Billy, what's your plan if this place grows monstrously and forces you into higher priced plans? Presumably you're on the personal starter at $9/month in order to get URL redirection and are picking up the tab. Will you ask for donations, incorporate diminutive ads or ... what?
O/T2: At this stage a one man admin team is more than enough. If you get to the point you need some help i'll offer mine now. I was the admin for one of the largest programmer's forums (about 1/2 million posts) for about 5 years. It was initially phBB based, later on, and to this day SMF. Wouldn't call myself an expert but I was able to do everything we needed to do throughout those years, doing everything from custom graphics, CSS tweaks, backup, yada.
Anyway, best of luck with this forum, hope the community fully embraces it and ditches HC for good.
Iz
Hi Izzy,
Quite a bit more than $9/month because I need enough page views limit and bandwidth for the forum to operate properly but it's manageable. I have made good decisions in my life and I am in a position where I can afford to this. do HCAF has been a GREAT community to me and I want to give it back to that community.
If it gets to the point where it's too big and the costs are too high, then I will figure it out. Maybe a donation system, volunteers to help me with the administration will be needed at that point.
We will cross that bridge if/when we get to it and we will do it together. I will be honest and open with you guys at all times. But at the moment, we're good
I am up for donations

Re: what will you guys miss most about HCAF?
I'd kick in right now , perhaps make a thread somewhere up in here for folks that want to keep the train rollin , like buying the man a beer , you deserve it . I know you are not asking now and that's cool but I was at HC for 10 fucking years this could go the distance easily . Make the option available , you see it on other forums "doners" or care givers or ally, associate, colleague in their title , set up a paypal and lets do it .

Down to donate as well.
I am going to miss some of the epic threads over there. Especially the EVH Photoshop threads. I am sure this place will develop it's own personality and I am optimistic it will be better. HCAF 1.0 was amazing and this place has that feel for sure.
Thanks again will.i.am.

Awesome billy!
I have been frequenting the usacharvels website recently and it is a 1-man operation too.
It has a 'donations' thread that is only visible after you create a username.
Don't hesitate to use this model as I am sure there are many here who would help to support this community.

Having some random new person drop in and post looking for help, getting it, feeling comfortable and part of the group only to make the mistake posting in one of the off topic threads and getting shredded by the guys in three wolf moon t shirts (us).

Re: what will you guys miss most about HCAF?
I will most miss the reviews and of course Anderton, that guy made the website man!
I do think though that if expenses get to be too much you might want to consider merging with the other sites that we have all fractured to as well as donations. The community on HCAF made it great so having as much of the people together as possible would be nice, just a thought.

Re: what will you guys miss most about HCAF?
post counts, join dates, etc.. i'd been on HC (not in Mapz tho til much later) since Apr 2002 and when JC went Armhold on some of the douchies from the HCBF and they all migrated i found youse guise and it felt like home again. agreed that most cool folk have already come over but that was a cool place for everyone to go, our Rally Point if you will. sad it had to crash and burn as such.

Tell yer Momma I aksed her how she durrin...

My mate runs a web hosting company and I give him a hand with graphic design and shit, so I get free servers with unlimited bandwidth and storage space. It can be a bit unreliable but if you ever started struggling I could probably sort something out!
Cheers for getting this going, it feels like the old HCAF I used to enjoy.
