you can write off all of your music related expenses (he's a dope for expensing gas/repairs/maint when the mileage deduction rate is so fkn high nowadays) as long as you report the income.
of course, as Consigliere here, you gotta be goin' full r3tard strong to deposit cash you make from playing and open up that whole can 'o worms... ;)

also, i'll be owing, like usual
because me, a single 31 year old professional working white male, should pay a higher "fair share" because i use soooooo much more resources so they need more of mah tax $$'s... :o

I dunno what it will look like this year, but the past 2 years filing with my son, the kid made a big enough difference that even if I claimed a bunch of exemptions to pay the least possible, I still would've gotten a sizeable refund. I bet you'll find the same.

Thats what Ive been told. Right now, my exemptions are still at 0, but after I do my taxes this year...which will hopefully be soon, just waiting on my W2 from my old job at this point, and for Leahs...then Ill make judgements from there and see what I think I should change it to.

RSBro...I saw that the IRS one is broken, but there are a handful of them out there, and I checked one out...it told me to claim 5 exemptions lol.

I keep my exemptions at zero as does my wife. We get a freaking gigantic refund this year and have always gotten a decent chunk back.

Unless ya need the money each check I don't really see why it makes a difference. We still save throughout the year and then get 'surprise' money come tax time. Not like our savings is making any interest worth writing home about and I'll be damned if I'm going to write a check come April.

Though I think starting this year we will each add an exemption to bump our checks up while still getting a refund at the end of the year.

Fwiw, the reason I prefer a big refund is due to situations like at the end of the year 2012. So many people I knew were freaking out with the possibility they would owe $3k more than planned. We would have had that come out of our refund but still gotten a fat check.

A lot of people do this but I would rather not have the govt holding on to my money for a year, interest free, while I'm paying interest on something else or could use it for an emergency fund or whatever

At the 1% or whatever interest rate in the bank I'll just let the gov't have it for free and get it back in one chunk instead of blowing a little bit more each month and not having anything.

I totally get what you're saying, but its just not worth the hassle to me. Should be the first time wifey and I get a really decent refund to.

I already have savings, investments, and my retirement account is maxed for company matching.

Before having kids my wife and I would take a sweet vacation. After kids I have bought gear while my wife bought clothes/hair appts/whatevs. I don't see the problem. Again, savings accounts don't pay dick and fwiw my investments have lost money in recent years. My old house lost money. My 401k at countrywide was raped. I lost 85% of that account.

Letting the govt hold extra money I didn't absolutely need doesn't seem that bad. Again, when my friends were losing their minds thinking the fiscal cliff deal would fail I was only slightly bummed I wouldn't be able to go balls out on extra gear. As it is my boss hosed my bonus for 2012 so I'm going to proceed with sweet new gear thanks to giving uncle Sam an interest free loan.

King size tempurpedic mattress and something nice to hold it. Wife wants a sleigh bed I think. $$$

We were originally going to put it towards the down payment on a new house but I think we've got enough for that already. We've put like our last 6 years worth of tax refunds into savings for this very purpose, especially once the market crashed and we watched the equity in our house vanish.

Yeah, we're getting a new mattress and frame as well. I heard temperpedic and rolled my eyes. I'm sure it'll be sweet so I'll hold my bitching until after we get it.

This. I slept on one one night and it was the best sleep I've ever had.

I got a bad lower back anyways so given how long you spend in bed in your average lifetime, it's one of those things you don't really cheap out on. We got a pretty nice sealey posturepedic mattress back in 05 when we moved to our old house but the thick " memory foam" top has lost its shape and has two big indentions in it where we sleep.
