Government: If We Do Come After You, Your Guns Won’t Do Shit

In a wake-up call to passionate second-amendment defenders everywhere, the US Government today released a statement explaining that in the event that the government really wants to come in and seize everything that matters to you, your silly homegrown little collection of firearms won’t help you.

“You think your handguns, shotguns– even semi-automatic assault weapons are keeping you and your loved ones safe from the US Government?” the statement began. “Don’t make us laugh. That shit will only make us angry as we quietly and with devastating efficiency dismantle your entire life and steal or destroy everything you have worked so hard for, if or whenever we feel like it, leaving you to rot in a secret prison until not even the NRA remembers you ever existed.”

The statement appears have been issued in answer to the increasingly popular argument of gun-owners that they need to stockpile weapons in order to protect themselves from an increasingly influential government that could otherwise wield too much power over them.

“You think your guns can protect you from us, if we want to get to you?” it concluded. “You think we don’t know how to find you when you are at your most vulnerable? Next time you’re relaxing in the sauna at the tennis club on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, why don’t you think about that one again?”

It added, “By the way, we love what you’ve done with the spare bedroom. That new wallpaper really pops. Also, you made the right decision, not getting premium cable. You barely watch any TV as it is these days. Also, you might want to consider laying off the hot pockets now and then. So much sodium!”

The government also noted that it has “More or less owned all your asses since the fifties or so, but nice try, America. Your optimism and misguided sense of your own independence is super adorable and reminds us why we love this great country of ours so much.”

From what I understand, the gun nuts are more worried about the general populace during social unrest in the event of an absolute economic meltdown than fighting the government.

Also, the government's enforces are common men and women just like you and I. I believe that if it came down to it, the soldiers would not wage war against their own people and ultimately say no.

I don't know many military people who trust the suits' decision making anymore. It'd be like, "you want us to shoot our neighbors for being pissed? Forget about it."

From when I was in, I knew guys who definitely wouldn't act against their fellow citizens, but lots of folks would do anything they were ordered to do.

Also, increasingly, there's lots of informational spin so I think if the military were able to control just a bit of what people in its ranks were getting for news it'd be easy to get them to move against groups of people in the US.

Contrast this, we used to watch CNN's international channel in the chowhall every day. My buddy Victor told me it's all Fox News all the time now.

Big difference there. CNN's international channel is, or was quite a bit better than the one everyone watches here in the US.

This is correct, and why gun nuts need to stop referring to the 2nd amendment as the be all/end all reason for gun ownership. Own one because you want to, and you can. It's legal, period.

The paragraph in the OP is also correct. It's not really about a government takeover anymore. Any person that thinks they are prepared to defend themselves against the ones in charge, are extremely dilusional, at best.

Ironically, the most unbiased news sources in the US now are probably Russia Today and Al Jazeera

And maybe ground grunts might refuse to engage their own people, but I have no doubt in my mind that they'd be able to get some drone pilots on board via propaganda or other "mind control" techniques. Hellfire from the sky > AR15 all day, erry day.

I like Al Jazeera quite a bit. I'm not sure I'm ready to step up to full watchlist status by getting the ap for my iPad yet though.

You'd be amazed at how many people I have spoken to that assume Al Jazeera is a terrorist news organization. Russia Today is also good.

It blows my mind that so many people don't or won't inquire about a alternative news source or point of view.

I became a much freer thinker when I nixed cable entirely years ago.

I haven't had a TV since 2009. Not sure I miss it. But with another crappy winter coming, I think I will bite the bullet and get one.

But I don't know.

Either way, I definitely won't have cable.

I should add...

We're one good earthquake away from 200k people having no food here. I find great comfort in owning a few well selected firearms and having a nice place in the woods to boogie off to.

When people are faced with starvation, or watching their kids starve they find they're capable of all sorts of heinous acts.
