Says until further notice. They'll probably be back.

Reeves is a fantastic alternative.

It sucks that they're not making amps anymore, but I wouldn't play a new one anyway. My next amp will be either a REAL hiwatt(if I find a great deal) or likely a Ceriatone Hey What. I want the old sounding hiwatt tone. Those things are so boner inspiring.

Just curious, what do you mean? They still made custom shop amps built like the originals with partridge transformers and turret board construction.

I mean, a new Reeves is probably the closest to the real deal but I still thought hiwatt was making some sweet amps. Maybe I'm off base as I don't follow them that closely.

I would buy a Reeves in a second...awesome.

Sadly Hiwatt has had its anus raped several times in the last 3 decades....if you want a Hiwatt get one from prior to the late 70s....I stupidly got rid of mine as I no longer needed to shake everyone in my zipcodes filings out! Fuck it was brootally loud.

So much truth.

Still sad to see a decent company go down while arseholes like Marshall and Gibson continue to rake in millions.

I don't know if I'd go as far as calling Marshall arseholes. I mean, they are catering to their target market as well as branching out into others (both the newer guitarist with the MG and MA series and the rich dentist market with the 1 watt amps). On top of that they re-released one of their best amps (the DSL) with features that people have been asking for for decades.

On the other hand, I will give you Gibson. What a crock there. FIREBIRD X IS TEH FUTURZ. #-o

Too bad about Hiwatt though. I will own a mid-70's DR504 someday. It will be mine.

Into Plexi clone / '68 Bassman / JCA 100 / '65 Ampeg M-15
Into 2x12 with Green Beret / Reaper 55hz OR 4x12 with G12T75s

Good deals with: Ovid9, paul88lx, Y0UNGBL00D, boonestunes, Laura from Valvequeen.

the guys who owned Hiwatt for the last few years were total crooks, they got arrested for dealing in stolen guitars. When I lived in England they had a vintage guitar store in the city I lived

Except that's not the Hiwatt that closed it's doors.

MusicGround owns Hiwatt UK and the UK/EU rights to the Hiwatt trademark. The Hiwatt trademark rights have been split for decades.

hiwatt.com and the North American rights to Hiwatt is owned by Fernandes Guitars. Fernandes has started and ceased production of Hiwatt's multiple times always using a OEM manufacture to make the amps.

As noted, Hiwatt has gone through multiple changes and been shutter over and over again in the last 30 years. Sometimes, the brand would be used to make pretty good (but never great) RI's of their old amps, other times the brand would be used to sell shitty generic middle-of-the-road amps. Hiwatt has been nothing but brand equity for decades.

This is why Reeves has cornered the market on quality repros of classic Hiwatt models. These days NO ONE ever actually buys a new Hiwatt to get legendry Hiwatt tones, they always bought vintage (which are still reasonable) or bought a Reeves, Ceriatone, or similar.

I will say that I played one of the more recent Hiwatt Hi-Gain 100 halfstacks about 4-5 years ago and thought it sounded good. Nothing like the classic Hiwatt tones everyone knows, but still pretty awesome.

I had the opportunity to hear the Ceriatone next to a real old Hiwatt. It's not in the same league. Much thinner sounding. I would go with a Reeves.

That dvd kicks seven levels of ass. Pete's toans are a significant part of that.
