Does Steve Vai play lesbian djent these days?

Post by Dave »

Watching the story of light live from Nokia

Maybe not djent but guitar based dubstep complete with breakdowns??

Then angry lesbian singer and lesbian keyboardist.

It's all good and really not surprising. Actually, the dubstep drops were kinda interesting.

Also, he plays with an Led costume complete with light up helmet. Loop was beat to the punch

I haven't followed Vai's career since the 90's so I don't know what he's up to these days. I will try to watch this video later though, it sounds at least hmm.... interesting

Given that it's Vai and not my style at all, I will say its rocking and he does what he does better than anyone else!

I hate the tones he gets. He had 2 legacys, a mini legacy and a rack of AxeFX's.

I've heard better, less processed, tone for this style of shred.

Anyway, some of the dubstep like drops were coolz

His tone has always been pretty average IMO. His cleans are horrendous. Like he plugged directly into the PA...

Yeah live tone was never Vai's biggest strength. He has some good recorded tones on Alien Love Secrets though. I really love Bad Horsie and Die to Live.

Alien love secrets is good for what it is. It's that tone that isn't for my style at all but I can appreciate it's the best for his style. This live show was particularly... processed.

He didn't beat me to the punch.

He inspired me.

I want to be him.

I went to a Zappa concert in the early 80's and just out of nowwhere this kid plays this little 30 second burst of awesomness and I was like "Whoa, who the fark was that!?!?". I think he sounds great, but apparently I know nothing.

His clean tones are some of the worst I've ever heard. How can you play so well and be so tone deaf?

This. I'll take it a step further and say Eric Johnson's cleans are insanely weak for using two blackface Twins. Its like he eq's all low end out of them and makes it purposely sound like direct to the board 80's cleans. His distorted tones however are brilliant.

On the flipside of weak cleans, check out some of Richard Thompsons stuff. His dry, out of phase strat tone is so expressive. It's so simple it boggles my mind. It sounds pretty much like Strat>Cable>Fender Amp.

And he can make you cry with it.
