Didn't try the BRZ but I did try it's cousin, the Scion FRS -- fun car -- surprising given it's modest power plant. The beefier STI BRZ should be very satisfying to drive (hope they beef up the chassis and suspension -- not just the engine).

I'll take a light, underpowered car that handles any day. My fit is a blast to drive. It's fun, cheap, and doesn't require premium gas. I wish it had traction control because it's so light that traction is a problem.

Thanks man. I can honestly say I didn't buy it for looks. To be honest I think the Cayman is a sexier car. But it sports really annoying (1st world prob) cabin acoustics, that amongst other things, is victim of it's design: the cabin traps the engine noise and the rear tire noise -- purists say that's part of the charm -- meh -- I'm not a purist (tho I did own one for a short while). The Boxster believe it or not is overall quieter, and bonus, it's like having 2 cars. Win.

I'm a Subaru guy at heart so I was excited to drive the BRZ. I enjoyed it but for various reasons ended up buying a Focus ST instead (torx, room for gear, driving year round in Chicago).

I don't think they need to add much power to that car though. Too much power would upset the balance of it as is.

My friend from work had a new Audi. We used to drive out during lunch. Nothing wrong with that car except he had some problem with the wheels that required multiple trips to the dealer. Also the cupholders were crappy.

I had a good deal on a C2S demo lined up -- even tho it had more power, and is more refined cabin wise than the Boxster it felt pendulous and ass heavy after owning my first Boxster (the current one is my second) -- the "little car" is simply more fun to drive, very spirited but useable power and rediculously balanced. Granted, there's a point where the shear torque of the 911 series, like the GT3 and Turbo, simply trump all other cars with their jaw dropping performance, including the diminutive Boxster, but those are way out of my league financially and driving skill wise, and quite frankly if you drove them in a way that was actually pleasurable you'd be that typical fucking ass hat, super car owner, selfishly putting everyone else on the road at risk. Pass.

Regular driving, no track use:
Engine Oil changes & Misc = $200 every 6,000 miles
Transmission & Differential Fluid Changes = $2,000 every 18,000 miles
Tire Change = $2,000 / set (tire life should be somewhere between 8,000 miles and 20,000 miles depending on many factors including how you drive, the roads where you live, weather conditions)
Annual POS (including alignment) = FREE
Brake pads & rotors = $6,000 / set (every 24,000 miles)

In short, at suggested market prices, you can expect to pay an annualized cost of $6,700 assuming you drive 12,000 miles and assuming you go through one set of tires per year.

Not as bad as I thought... ouch on the transmission & diff fluid changes though. Also, if you got a 2009 model and put it into launch control mode you voided your warranty - even if you didn't actually do a hard launch with it engaged.

The $6k every other year for a brake change is what I remember...that's brutal.

As much as I appreciate the GTR, and I do, I don't think it's an ideal daily driver for a lot of people. Enthusiasts? Absolutely! Normal people? No way.

Either way, you're letting other people's opinions decide what car you want, and missing out on some fantastic driving experiences in either. The Skyline series was legendary long before even the first Fast and Furious film was made. The engineering in the new GTR is incredible... making a ~4000 pound car that fast is no joke. OTOH Porsche has put 50 years of refinement into the 911 now, and figured out things along the way that nobody thought would be possible with a rear engined car.

I simply don't like the way they look. They're ugly cars. Porsche's are timeless classics for the most part.
