Curious here as well. If he purchased his own insurance outside of work, why can't he change jobs? My understanding is that as long as he doesn't let coverage lapse then nothing will change?
Pretty sure that means can't change companies as in, insurance companies. Not who he works for.

He's a CPA operating his own business - he and his wife are the only employees. He does the auditing and corporate quarterlies for the owner of my company. The kicker is that he lives on Long Island and we have higher prices for everything... property taxes, gas, toothpaste, etc. It's the reason the Insurance Companies don't want to allow policy sales across state lines.
OOOPS! Sorry guys, he just told me it costs he and his wife $14,400/year. ($1200/month)

I mean I realize it's way more important to have the worlds most expensive military by orders of magnitude than it is to educate and provide basic services for our own citizens. You never know when the Canadians are gonna invade!
I've seen you say this a couple times now, and like the other lines you continue to use, is a parroted talking point.
The reason police and fire are subsidized by taxpayers (or, "free" to you) is because there's a duty to protects ones "life, liberty and happiness" from the moron next door.
If monster jam roger next door decides to deepfry his turkey with his friends while drinking bud diesel and starts a fire, it's infringing on my rights to have a safe house. That's my right, he's infringing. Thus, fire department is called. Same with a robber or rapist. It's infringing on my rights.
Now, when monster jam roger decides to build a half pipe in his backyard to do 1080's on and no handed Indian burn or whatever the fuck else trick he wishes and he falls/rips his ass open, this has no effect on me
His bleeding nutsack stuck to a nail he didnt hammer in doesnt bother my rights.
And that's why the ambulance is NOT free. You pay for that shit or your insurance does.
See the difference here? One set protects people's rights and liberties from the other dumbasses and the other services just the individual and party involved.
That's the difference.
People have just as much a right to affordable healthcare as they do police and fire protection.
It looks like it pretty UNaffordable healthcare for a lot of people
From 2001 to 2008, insurance companies combined net profits increased from $2.5 billion to $12.5 billion. Your health insurance increased by close to 150% and they cancelled millions of policies to increase profits. With that money, they bought off politicians and the media to make you think that Obama Care will increase your rates. The health insurance companies really are evil bastards!

frumiousbandersnatch wrote: Sorry. No. The difference is he goes to the emergency room, where he must be treated even if he has no insurance. If he can't pay, these costs are then subsidized by everyone else's insurance premiums. Sooner or later, we all pay for the uninsured. It's just cheaper when the pool of the insured is larger.
Only if everyone pays for their premiums. Subsidized health care forces you to pay for me. Doesn't matter if that is fair or right, if I don't pay for my insurance, you will.

My high school friend is a psychiatrist now and is saying he cant afford his health insurance now. He's been posting pics of his new raptor and all the mods he's doing to it, and has a bass boat and a harley. Here is what he had to say, and I just cant feel sorry for him.
So we have been discharged from Blue Cross Blue Shield for not meeting the "criteria" to keep our health insurance that we had for many years and we are forced out to sign up for obamacare because we are "above the poverty level" and have "pre-existing conditions".
From the mouth of the great liar in chief: "You won't be forced into obamacare! you will have the ability to keep your private insurance if that's what you want to do!"
Now I have to figure out how I'm going to take care of my family at twice the cost that I already didn't have the money for!
Class warfare at it's best.
No matter what your status in life is, your insurance premiums shouldn't double for any reason
Wife is a nurse - the 3 hospitals in our area are ALL on a hiring freeze, one has had layoffs - all because the way medicare payments are now handled by hospitals under Obamacare is costing them millions & making them unprofitable. Maybe the reigns had to be tightened, I don't know ... but I can tell you hospitals are taking a f'n beating so far due to Obamacare... everyone in the healthcare biz hates it (even the docs)

YOu may be right. However, I really don't think the demand for nursing will be any less. In reality, I think that the workload for nurses will be even higher and they will get paid less for doing it...just like the doctors.
My mother is a retired nurse. Been an RN for most her adult life. Two decades ago she was able to see the writing on the wall and knew that the workload was only going to increase as years went by. (industry was/is sickly-inefficient and baby boomers are getting older)
so, she got whatever degree she needed to go into medical research. she got paid a fortune by the government to determine why cats land on their feet...why rats die when they get pumped full of 1000x more saccharine than any human could possibly use in a lifetime and other such wonderful 'needed' info. I'm not joking.
the whole system is a joke and the government is the court jester.

You're just lying and making things up. Quit being a liar.

huh? my fiancee is a RN and it's business as usual for her. She's been with the same hospital for 10 years and would have no issues getting another job, she actually gets offers all the time (through colleagues and doctors she works with). I don't see ANY crisis for nurses at the moment.

I bolded the statements you made that are either hyperbole or lies.
My mom and her new husband both work at a hospital too and it's still business as usual. How do you know that the hiring freeze and layoffs are in any way related to Obamacare? Maybe the area you live in has a weak job market. Are you sure you're not just making stuff up?

I've been hearing exactly the opposite, at least locally. Hospitals will now have more patients with healthcare coverage which means more guaranteed payments. Historically uninsured patients who don't get preventive care tend to show up at the ER as a last resort then don't pay their hospital bills. Hospitals around here are practically begging to hire nurses and CNAs for that matter.

You're a liar and a fraud.
Maybe, but it wasn't intentional ... just passing on some heresay from when my wife talks shop (she's actually a RN case manager & is very familiar with the new changes to healthcare coverages & their consequences - she's basically a "bed broker" - decides who qualifies to get admitted based on medicare/insurance qualifications, and more importantly - who doesn't get admitted because the hospital will NOT GET FUCKING PAID, so lets just say she's pretty up on all the recent affordable care changes). Again, only from what I hear, Obamacare is a total shitshow for hospitals & it all trickles down from there ... after all, even non-profit hospitals are businesses.
... now if you want to start an arguement & are looking for facts, I have none - this is not my gig. I just thought it would be of interest to hear some intel from somebody who's paid their dues and is in the trenches of all this on a daily basis, and what the direct consequences clearly already are in my region of the country.

HA! The Affordable Health Care Act (Obama Care) doesn't kick in until 2014!!! WTF are you talking about?
Sounds like Kaiser Health has been doing an effective smear campaign. If you want to get a better picture of what is going on check out this: http://www.whitehouse.gov/healthreform/myths-and-facts Also, watch Michael Moore's documentary, "Sicko" about how the health insurance companies are making billions while denying service to millions of people.

He's a well known liar and apparently so is his wife.
Pretty sad when one has to resort to outright lies to support their views.
What's sad, is that he doesn't even know that his BS is serving to screw himself over while supporting the top dogs at the Health Insurance Companies. He's regurgitating the BS that Kaiser Health has been spreading. If only Kaiser were as good at providing quality care as are about spreading propaganda!

Many people are having there work hours 'cut' to part time by employers and the reason is healthcare. The labor workforce is at its lowest since WW2, many people have stopped looking for work and dropped out of the labor-force, no spin just factual!
Many business are also cutting spouses off of the healthcare roll and family members as well off of eligility, places like UPS, Walgreens and many others im forgetting as well have made drastic cuts
There may be some "good" in the law, but there are also bad and also many unitended consequences" (as usual) with such a massive law

Again, The Affordable Health Care Act (Obama Care) does not kick in to 2014. Any jobs lost, over the past few years, or recently, has NOTHING to do with The Affordable Health Care Act!!! It's a myth spread by Big Health Insurance because they are terrified about losing money! Do you care if they made a profit of $10billion instead of $15billion?
