NAD (a few weeks ago)... Diezel D-moll

Post by ValveQueen »

I had a request to make a thread so here goes.

I do some re-tube work for US Diezel customers and always wanted to own or at least play a Diezel. Peter suggested the new D-Moll. I haven't spent tons of time with it due to an ongoing flu bug and work but I love this amp.

HNAD!

Would you say it has a really sharp attack on the notes? Since every vid I've listened of this amp seems to have that, like there's a really fast noise gate opening on every note.

All the videos I saw had effects and likely a gate running. Mine was straight in with nothing in the loop. It does clean, mid gain to full on thick, saturated compressed metal. Guys in my band dropped their jaws because it sounds mean and nasty in a good way. I don't hear any sharp attack but that could be my settings versus theirs.

Not at all! I try not to use a boost if possible as I think they thin my tone in most cases.

Wow, that's a nice raw metal tone! One of the best diezel clips I've heard to date.

Congrats!

This. I am one of those folks who have yet to be impressed with the Diezel clips I've heard. This sounds like there is a good mix of gain + useable tone.

I'd love to hear more about what you think of it.

You own a ton of great cool amps. Just nice to hear what you think of the lowend...the compression (or lack of) thru different settings...

How's the midgain? Is it open and "thwacky" or more compressed and "Hi-fi" like most Diezels?

Thanks for checking it out. The switching is impressive on this amp. Nothing like anything I have owned or played before.

Tonally, it sounds huge. I knew I would like it but it really, sounds different than my other amps and I really love it!

As far as the mid gain and cleans, I will listen more and report back. My V30 cab is still in the gear trailer and I really like that cab with this amp.

There is a German guy who did a cool D-Moll video but a lot of guys didn't care for the tones in his video (I can't find the video at the moment). I thought it sounded like the amp and it impressed me. As you know, I don't do any post eq so what you hear is a pretty good "un-adultered" version of an amp (or amps) in my clips.

And rightfully so. I am more impressed with an even DECENT in room demo than a super slick Multi tracked one. I would like as close a representation of what I'm going to hear right in front of the amp.

Yeah me and the Diezel voicing just have never seen eye to eye. I've played most of them quite a bit (we used to have a diezel dealer in town) so I got to spend a lot of time with the herbert, einstein (which my old rhythm player used to own), the V4HS and Schmidt.

I think it's the mid gain voicing that I've never liked. None of the high gainers can give me the FEEL that I want out of a tone and when I finally got to sit down and spend some time with the Schmidt, I was excited because it was branded as their blues amp but when I started playing it, it sounded like an einstein with less gain but it still FELT like a stiff clean high gain amp :|

The schmidt was sitting between a BadCat Hotcat 30R and a Shiva and both of those amps just crushed the Schmidt in terms of low/moderate gain joocy goodness.
