Re: I'm sorry....
i like their stuff in small doses. i have a Social D tattoo on my forearm, but its more for the symbolism of the logo; ''Celebration in life and Death'' pretty much sums up the balance of Creation through Destruction that has been the calling card of the human race since the early 1900s.

Pretty much this exactly. I was never a skater punk kid myself but I hung out with that crowd mostly. Their fans are all kinds of simple trying to be deep that is annoying to no end.

I don't know what to say, my two favourite music styles are (classic) hard rock and rockabilly, and I hardly listen to anything recorded after say 1991, but I just find these tunes boring... Radio country with distortion, that's what they sound to me... Very "safe"/commercial stuff, not gritty, raw, in your face at all.
If u like gritty and raw check out anything duane peters did with the u.s. bombs or the hunns. D generation also was a great band for that stuff.

Re: I'm sorry....
I'm a huge fan of Duane's bands.
And I picked the three most "accessible" songs from the Social D catalog that I could think of. There's more gritty stuff in there, but he was asking about songs he might have heard. Anyway, I don't know about commercial... They've never exactly been a super band.
For me at least, sometimes their songs are the only thing that will hit what I'm feeling. They're important to me, and what other people think won't change that.
Also, I never really thought of myself as simple but trying to be all that deep...

I like 'em a bit. Not a super fan, like a few people I know. I'd go see them live if they came through my town and didn't cost my right nut.

Re: I'm sorry....
I'll be the exception here: I love Social D. Mike Ness is the kind of rockstar I wish I could be, on such occasions as I find myself wishing I were a rockstar.
Having said that, he has some of the worst onstage patter I've ever heard. Here's an actual example, from when I saw them in about 1994. Mike's words are in text; my real-time reactions are in emoticons:
"This next song...is an outlaw song...
...a song for all the outlaw women here tonight...
...the women in black, that is...
...black...underwear, that is...
...or...no underwear at all..."
For a guy who probably hates 80s hair metal, he sure does a decent Stephen Pearcy impression.

"If there was only a way that I couldn't even any less than I already can't then I'd gladly not, but I think I've entered some quantum paradox, dark matter levels of can't evening where the total absolute value of not evenness exceeds all ability to explain the can'ting." - MR RUBATO
Re: I'm sorry....
I love a lot of their stuff and find it fun to play. Its not my favorite but I have no problem with Social D at all. Loud p-90 guitars into a cranked Bassman...that's my idea of a good time.
Mike Ness sure wears a lot of eye make-up for someone who assumes a tough guy persona. I've always found that a bit odd.

I dont really care for any of those bands. I like some Godsmack stuff, but its the very early stuff, none of this shit they are doing now. I've never listened to MDD that I know of.
Yes, I like some modern rock and heavy metal, and some cuntry and some actual country, but these guys have just never really done anything for me. I guess I just dont really "connect" with anything that I have heard from them.
It might also be because the few songs of theirs that we play, I think they rock harder than their versions, and I am just expecting that from the band that wrote them, and I dont get it.
But it might also be his voice too...kinda grates on my ears.
I don't know.

GODSMACK!! Awesome, lets remember Sully & them..
Its kinda funny when bands get so caught up in a niche that is destined to die, but are determined to go down with the ship. What else to do I guess; it caught em more than just 15 mins of fame.

Probably my favorite band. Listened to them all day today on the tractor.
I think your level of "like" for social distortion is proportionate to the distance you live to coastal Southern California.
I say that because in my travels, not many people know them.
However, in California, especially coastal SoCal, it's truly 'the' band.
Grew up loving them, still love them. Had a skelly on my skateboard, surfboard, etc.
You would be hard pressed to find someone that doesn't like them here.

Being a transplant straight from the 3rd World, I'm just not a fan since hearing their stuff back then before my move to CA from AZ.

And damn, I am a hellaciously long way from Cali. I can understand it though. I guess it's just the way I am, and how some people are about the music I listen to. Like Billy Joe Shaver and Blackberry Smoke and whatnot.

Shaver!? Damn, I worked a show (doing lighting) for them back when Eddie was still alive. That guy could play, & Billy Joe was just a cool ol guy!
