I'm sorry....
But I can't fucking stand Social Distortion. I can think F one or two songs that we do that I kinda like, but I fucking hate everything else.
I guess I am a bad person.

They did a solid cover of Ring of Fire.
Re: I'm sorry....
Are you trying to say you have an opinion that may go against a popular majority?
Hmm.. one could find ones-self ostracized pretty quick if not carefull......

Re: I'm sorry....
Growing up I liked them a lot. Now that they are somewhat popular I guess many will not like them anymore. I don't like mikes tough guy shtick and all that shit but I really use to like his guitar style. Simple but with a lot of feel and great tone, his leads are like a song within a song and are memorable and fit the song. I saw them a bunch in the 90's and into 2000's. I don't think they ever put out a dud record although I haven't heard the latest 1 or 2.
Re: I'm sorry....
I can't stand them either... Should be right my style, everybody go "Aaahhh, then you like Social Distortion for sure!", but everytime I try to listen to one of their cds I'm like
Boooring, bland and generic stuff to my ears... And VERY calculated, commercial, MTV/kids oriented IMO. Basically just the opposite of what I think RnR should be.

Never heard anything from them that I've cared for either (which admittedly has not been much)

I don't own any of their records but if one of their songs come up on the radio I won't change the station either. It's decent background/driving music but nothing to write home about.

That's one or two more than me

Re: I'm sorry....
I grew up on them as a skater punk kid, and still don't mind hearing them in small doses. They have fantastic tones. It is there fans that make me want to hate them, they are just like Tool fans.
Good deals: Guitar Billy, Crunchtime, Draco Aron, Holy War, Crank, Yo Squig, Moops, Elemenope, Edge of Darkness, Abstract, Chris JD, Ricky Rockhardo, Norton 666, Freehandarson, Dolf, Van_Muddlestein, Yarbicus, Schweezly, Nateispro, Conky, MikeO, Whiskey Face, Broslinger, Mamberg, Ajaxlepenski, Ovid 9, SAH5150, Axe, Greatmutah, Rubyguitargod, Hardvalve, JerEvil, Jive Turkey

Re: I'm sorry....
Their last record sucked pretty hard. Mike's lyrics are pretty simplistic, but I'll always love the old stuff. Having said that, I don't really care if anyone else likes them or not.

lol I think our tastes are very similar, so, I guess I have questionable bands that I like lol

I am glad that I am not the only one that is like that. Pretty much everyone that I know loves them, and I am just like

Can someone name a Social Distortion song I may have heard of?

"I was wrong" was getting airplay and was sort of a hit back in 97 or around then. That whole record "white light white heat white trash" is a great record cover to cover , no filler. Also u might have heard their cover of "ring of fire" . Most of their best songs u probably haven't heard and their old catalog is definatly worth checking out.

And then the one with the tone I've loved the most in recent years. I don't sound anything like it... But it's pretty much the best:

Fuckin great song! although its the album version edited in with live footage. I guess I can see how the modern rock guys wouldn't dig this. It's pretty far off from my darkest days , godsmack and the like.

Yeah, his tone has always been pretty killer although it has changed a little over the yrs. I know he uses an old modded bassman head and sometimes blends with an old Marshall jmp. I had a chance to buy mikes old lp deluxe with p90's, it was his main guitar for yrs and was the one from the cover of heaven and hell, it was played to shit. It was only like $1500 bucks and I passed. Now I could've made some decent money flipping it.

Mike Ness has some of the best cranked-Bassman tones ever put to tape.
"If there was only a way that I couldn't even any less than I already can't then I'd gladly not, but I think I've entered some quantum paradox, dark matter levels of can't evening where the total absolute value of not evenness exceeds all ability to explain the can'ting." - MR RUBATO

I don't know what to say, my two favourite music styles are (classic) hard rock and rockabilly, and I hardly listen to anything recorded after say 1991, but I just find these tunes boring... Radio country with distortion, that's what they sound to me... Very "safe"/commercial stuff, not gritty, raw, in your face at all.

Re: I'm sorry....
... At this point I honestly prefer Sweden's The Bones, who are far from a memorable band, but at least do this kind of stuff with a little more grit:

(I understand they are not as "important" for the genre as SD of course! They've only been around since early 2000s...)
