So a buddy of mine is a tattoo artist, and I got to looking at the tattoo rig he uses. I'm peering inside the chassis of this little power supply driving his gun and I was surprised to see that it had a similar layout to a small scale guitar amp- minus the tubes, of course.
As a newb to tube amp tech, I was basically foaming at the mouth with the prospect of getting this thing to put out some tangible tones. Asked him what he wanted for it and gave the man his money.
Armed with ambition, curiosity and some light reading from Merlin Blencowe, I'm thinking I'd like to do something like a Dr. Z M12 circuit. No master volume and two EQ pots for simplicity (and space).
so you are going to remove all the guts and wire up a M12 circuit? Yeah I think is doable. The main question is whether the transformer will fit...IIRC the transformer on the M12 is not that small.
But if you do make it work, that would be really cool!!!! We will need some pics with it's done.

Yeah, that's my main concern at this point. They're pretty daunting for such a low wattage amp. I not sure if a toroidal PT would help my cause or not- But the fact that I really want to fit a choke in there too certainly doesn't.
The components will be jam-packed in close proximity, so noise could be another issue. But it's just something I'd love to see come together and I think it'd be an absolute kick in the pants to have it work at all.
This thread won't see any pics for a couple weeks yet, as I'm stuck out on a remote location for work. But I'll update as they come along and may call on you guys for some pointers if you don't mind.
