We rehearse at Sound Streets studio here in Reseda and last night Vivian Campbell and Vinny Appice were rehearsing with their new DIO tribute band in a room RIGHT next to ours. I was (am) a huge Dio fan so it was kind of nerve wrecking to play know that they could hear everything next door. But eventually we got to talk to both of them and they were really nice to us. Vivian was playing a Les Paul through a Marshall SLX

Not sure. I didn't ask I just recognized Vinny and Viv

The guy still can play. Sounded awesome. I was also surprised with the volume their practice at, it's really low. I guess that's how pros do it.
My band, on the other hand, is loud as fuck. I guess that's how hacks do it

Wow, Billy - what a cool night that must have been. Jimmy Bain was the bass player in Dio (at least for the first two albums - the ones I only really care about). I got to see and meet Vinny & Jimmy a couple of years ago in a band call the Hollywood Alstarz, with Carlos Cavazo playing guitar and a couple others I really didn't know much about. They played all their old bands' stuff - Sabbath, Dio, Quiet Riot, etc. They were absolutely amazing, and great guys to talk with. Vinny was especially cool, even more so considering he was just about to go out on tour with Heaven and Hell.
...and, whether or not that counts as a 'tribute' band is hard to say. I guess you'd have to have the namesake there (Mr. Dio, RIP) to fully qualify as the real deal, but even when Dio was playing with Craig Goldy, it's still billed as 'Dio'. Jeez, you could go crazy with this - is Deep Purple really DP without Ritchie Blackmore - even if Ian Gillian is singing? Anywho, I digress...
