also i learned two things during mine:

-red haired people are notoriously resistant to anesthetics (wtf? yup)

- i am immune, yes immune, to vicodin proper. apparently there is a synthetic and a natural version of those type of painkillers, and whichever one vicodin is, i have to use the other as vic has zero effect.

I'm immune too which is something I discovered as a result of having my wisdom teeth taken out. To be honest I didn't take any of the Vicodin right after I got them taken out because I wasn't in that much pain. But about two months later I threw out my back so I popped one and it had no effect. Then two. Them three. Nothing. At the time I was 6'4" and 310 so I figured that because I was a big guy they were weak but then my wife took a quarter of one for her knee that she blew out a couple months after that and she was fucking blasted.

I had mine out last year. It was horrible. They got all infected badly, and I had to go in for them to squeeze the pus out. I pretty much just lay on the couch for over a week, I was in so much pain.

Hopefully it goes smother for you :p.

I got knocked out when they took out all seven of mine...yeah, I must be part shark.

Anyway, only advice I have for you is to make sure you're plopped down before you take any painkillers after. I took a Vicodin in the kitchen, walked to my bedroom and found myself staring up at the ceiling from the floor.

Harvest wrote:AFAIK, there are a few different factors affecting how painful it will eventually be when the meds wear off - if they were impacted into your other teeth/jaw, how calcified the roots are, how the dentist extracts them (I think standard practice is to break the tooth into shards and then pull those out instead of yanking the whole thing), how neatly they stitch you up afterwards, how high your pain tolerance is, how clean you keep things while it's healing (heard some horror stories about "dry socket" and getting sepsis from the sockets getting infected)... the list goes on.

No idea how they went about pulling 'em out, but one of mine was coming up at an angle straight into a molar, and the other one was just plain horizontal. How the fuck my body decided to grow a tooth horizontally I have no idea.

Basically I went to the dentist coz I was getting all kinds of headaches and tooth sensitivity 'n' shit, got x-rays done. He pretty much said, "Yep, they're pretty fucked. If you get them removed within the next 6 months you should be fine." Well, I think it was maybe two years later, maybe longer, when I finally had it done. But yeah, it was all fine pretty soon after they were out.

So yeah dunno, maybe they just did a really good job. :idk:

Seven?! Sure the guy wasn't off his face or something when he pulled 'em? "Three down, one to goOOOOHHHH SHIT... these aren't even the right teeth. "

And then afterwards, "Yeah uhhh, turns out you had SEVEN of the fuckers. Crazy huh... "

*awkward silence*

*ahem*

"Just sign here and leave."

yeah, seven. I saw the full jaw x-rays before he pulled them, and I had three on one side and two on the other on my upper jaw to go with the normal two on the bottom. The oral surgeon got all excited because he wrote it up for some dental journal.

Extra teeth run in my family. I had one removed from the roof of my mouth when I was 13, and my son had one pulled from a similar spot when he was around 3 or 4. One or two of my aunts had something similar. Guess I'm a bit of a mutant, but unfortunately I ended up with no superpowers.

Three on one side? Where the fuck do they even go? Did they have to cut open your throat to get to the last one or something?! :freak:

Well, you guys were right, everything went pretty smoothly and uneventful. The last thing I remember is having a brief chat about my def leppard t-shirt while they were purring the mask on me. Woke up 5 hours later at home in bed. Didn't do any weird shit from the meds (that I remember, lol) No pain or swelling (yet).

PLUS I got 2 pedals from ups today! A soundblox bass envelope filter pro and a boss syb-5! Not a bad day actually.....

I went to the dentist last week and found out I had 4 cavities, and needed a crown.

I'm like what the fuck man, I brush 4 times a day, floss and take great care of myself.

Turns out two fillings I had as a kid apparently became unsealed and the cavities were underneath them. He said the fillings were done really good, too. He doesn't understand how they failed.

Anyways, 2 days later I have to go in for this nightmarish experience. I almost didnt even go because I am terrified of dentists and hate the drill/anything in the office.

Afterwards, it was like wtf, didnt even hurt, wasn't even scary.

I need my wisdom teeth pulled as well, so now I'm back in the original oh fuck that stage.

Lol, I got fillings as a kid and it hurt like a bitch....

Wisdom teeth on the other hand, (so far) almost like nothing happened except for being out cold for 10 hours.

My dentist told me that things like crowns sort of have an expiration date; 10-20 years and you're likely to have to replace them. Just be glad you're not having a root canal. Not only can it hurt like a summabitch, you have the added pleasure of smelling your tooth being ground away. The whole process takes a couple of hours with you sitting there with your mouth braced wide open, which turns out to be enormously exhausting.

They were just kind of lined up under the gum. As I recall, the last one on the side with three was kind of small. I have no idea exactly how they got them out, as I was out cold. :idk:

I had 3 wisdom teeth total. Of course they were coming in flat, pushing against ~3.5k of orthodontic work. Apparently this was unacceptable and they had to be cut out.

Only 3 as the other one just didn't come in I guess. :idk:

My suggestion is to drink heavily while on narcotics. That ends well.

kinda like the results your SN is going to wreak on the American economy :cop:

Festering beneath the fiscal easing and artificial interest rate manipulation is a disaster of epic proportions.

Hopefully your tooth-ectomy goes better than the real Mr. Blankfein's eventual comeuppance, in this world or the next.

I dunno. After I had my wisdom teeth pulled I thought, "Well, that's my dental bullshit done with for a while then." Not longer after... root canal time.

Thought it was gonna suck the big one, but it was a piece of piss. Mine wasn't done in one big session, it was done over I think 3, maybe 4 sessions. After the first one, all the pain was gone. Sorted. Asked about if I had to do anything in particular, coz with the wisdom teeth I couldn't smoke or eat whatever... nope, just do whatever the fuck I want. Walked outta there, lit a cigarette, went and had some lunch, went in to work.

Only slightly unsettling things about it were that during one of them I started getting feeling some back, but it didn't seem too bad so I didn't say anything... and the rather odd situation of someone fuckin' about with whatever weirdo dental gear in my mouth while I'm smelling what seems to quite distinctively be someone soldering. After one of the sessions he asks if it was all fine and I said, "Yeah no problems. But why does it smell like you're soldering in my mouth?"

And he goes, "Oh, well that's kinda what we're doing."

Wait, WTF? :freak: Why the fuck didn't anyone mention this'd be happening?!
