I don't think so. To me Facebook and Twitter is more for communication with people you already know (although obviously you can get to know complete strangers) but most of the time its people you already know or have some real world connection with.
With forums you get to know complete strangers that can have common interests (most of the time, if not majority of the time). It works cause I would never want to have real world connections with any of you crazy fucks
But that's just the way I see it.

Different purposes but I found back in the earlier days of facebook, I was on there more and lost interest in forums. Than came all the stupid farm games and people bugging me to water their shit. Than even more stupid games and notices from more people to do shit. Hardly ever go on facebook now. I've never done twitter and don't care to, now Tumblr that's different. Lonely chicks from all over the world showing their buttholes, that doesn't get old.
Yeah there is also the issue that facebook posts are not really searchable from google etc... so when people search for stuff like "how to bias an amp" or "best brand for chinchilla food" or whatever, they won't get any facebook posts but tons of forums discussions... so I guess as long as people as using the web for information as well as chit-chat we're safe

I don't think so. Twitter/FB is all about instant communication, specifically, aggregating news sources and other entertaining links. Social Media = consumption. Seems forums are still the place for "discussion."

Completely understandable. Most of you GAB folks are on my facebook AND my cellphone, they're like the friends I wished that was just minutes away fore to chat and jam with.

Was totally kidding though. I forget that no one knows I'm extremely sarcastic and it doesn't convey through text.
Plenty of guys here and from HCAF I'd like to meet in person.

I don't think forums are going anywhere in the near term (next 5-10 years probably.) Do twitter/FB steal some users? Sure, but neither of those places are overly useful as repositories of information.
Forums excel at that.
So, some of the camaraderie of forums might die (hopefully not though) but I think the basic format will be around in at least some similar form for quite a bit yet.

Forums are more driven by the users whose interests they cater to, and when they go to cash in it's easy for users to start up and migrate to new forums that don't compromise their experience. Take HCAF & GAB for instance.
Yeah I agree forums have a lot more mobility.

Case in point: by the beginning of this year, I had abandoned HCAF almost entirely, in favor of the HCAF (now GAB) Facebook group. This board brought me back from there, as evidenced by my post count. I just want to go where the laughs, the information exchange, the cool sounds, and the good people are, and I don't particularly care which medium I use to interact with them.

EDIT: I actually clicked around in there. oh my god, these people DO EXIST!!
