Whiskey?

Post by Yarbicus »

I am trying to go low carb so that means my beloved ales are right out. Been discovering that I like whiskey more than scotch or vodka. What should I try? Loving the JD Honey Whiskey. The Jim Beam is OK but I prefer the JD. Been drinking Samuel Grant bourbon; it's OK but obviously cheap.

What should I try?

$40 - Black Mapke Hill (VERY Smooth)
$50 - Blantons (best I've had)

Eagle Rare is my favorite cheapish range at about $30 a bottle. Good stuff.

I love the Honey flavored whiskeys, especially American Honey from Wild Turkey. I think it is better than JD.
I also prefer Wild Turkey 101, but that is just me.
We drink Beam onstage most of the time, so I am really used to that, but if they dont have that (which is rare), we just do JD.
But over all of those, I just go with Wild Turkey 101.

I did do a $50 shot while we were in San Antonio at some Irish bar. If I remember right, it was Glenlivet 25. In all honesty, it was only a little smoother than a shot of beam, but with Glenlivet, ya just sip on it for awhile.

Just me. I dont claim to be a whiskey connoisseur when I am sober, but when I've got a good buzz going.....

The Costco "Small batch 7 Year" bourbon is pretty darn good.

I enjoy Buffalo Trace and Bulliet as well.

For fancier I like Journeyman Distilleries Featherbone Bourbon.

I also love their Ravenswood Rye.

Redemption Rye is also fairly good.

I know jack about scotch.

Makers Mark. Best whiskey ever.

2nd choice is Jim Beam Black.

If it's not made in the state of Kentucky, it sucks.

I cant drink Vodka. I can drink 1 vodka drink, and feel like hell the next day.

I can get whiskey drunk & wake up & feel fine. (Well..when I still drank. Quit a few years ago)

Black Maple Hill is phenomenal but is pretty hard to find.

I'm generally a bourbon drinker when I do whiskey, haven't really delved into scotch much. For a relatively inexpensive, easy to find bottle Bulleit (both bourbon and rye) is pretty dependable. Tried Basil Hayden recently and really enjoyed that too.

I'm the same way with Whiskey as with effects pedals these days. Tried the fancy stuff, came back around full circle to Maker's Mark, Jim Beam and Jack/ MXR and Boss.

Yep!

I'd also like to throw out that Stranahans is my favorite of all time. Small Colorado batch. It's $60 a bottle though so you've gotta be someone that enjoys whiskey.

The Evan Williams Honey whiskey is nice to have around when you have the flu , or feel the flu starting to come on. A few shots of it works better than Nyquil / cold & flu meds. Helps with the sore throat as well. I did have a little bit of it cocktailed with some really good moonshine that a friend makes. That was a pleasant mix.

Wouldnt wanna get hammered on it though. :puke: . I cant stand a "sweet booze" hang over. Blehh.

I got really sick on Whiskey Dec. 18, 1968 and I wretch at the smell of it to this day. The folks around me all drink JD black but I am into Cognac instead. Maybe some day I will re-develop a taste and tolerance for whiskey.
