Hyper-moderation, bHz and how lame the internet can be

Post by Dolf »

Ok, so I'm part of a facebook group for a game that I play on there: Marvel Avengers Alliance. It's a typical FB game, but, hey, I'm a superhero nerd from way back wanna fight about it?

Anywho, literally 2-3 times a week one or the other (I'm assuming there's only two) of the girls that post there (the group has 6000 members) writes something passive aggressive and whiny about either 1)How mean everybody is and how they might as well leave the group because of them (which they never do) or 2)How vile and sexist everyone is and how they don't want to talk to them in Messenger anymore (which they still do anyway). One of the girls happens to be a Mod for the group....

So tonight I get on and there's this diatribe about how she (the one who's a mod) had started to do this detailed hero write up since the latest update but how she wasn't going to anymore thanks to "certain unruly members of the group" and that she "apologizes to anybody who found the list useful"..............

Attention-whoring, childish behavior and constant whining which is what's ACTUALLY making that group annoying and not fun. It's constant. I said as much.

Suddenly the thread is deleted and I have a warning message about how I'll be banned if I keep pointing out her nonsense. Also, she said I was sexist because only the girls get picked on.

I'm just annoyed. Also comic books are cool. Carry on.

TL:DR Attention-whoring passive-aggressive posts constantly effing up my Chi, but it's a mod doing the posting who strong arms anybody who disagrees with her.

Sucks dude. Passive-aggressive mods are the worst. Dealt with only a couple over the years, mostly on gaming forums (don't get D&D nerds ranting, things get crazy yo).

Stuff like that just makes things not fun.

Oh, and btw, I tried to play that game since you sent me an invite, but it made my archaic lappy run soooooo slow I never really could play.

I honestly can't express how little i relate to any of that.. Any text that is written to another person or about a certain topic will most certainly be twisted by someone to fit their argument/point of view.. I find it near impossible to stay engaged in any conversation via a forum/ text/Email.. It can drag on for days which only fuels the nonsense.. A conversation that would last minutes in person will get stretched out and stretched out until no one is listening and only getting more entrenched in their own point of view.. I hate basically everything, despite myself participating from time to time... I'm willing to revert all technology back 30 years! I'll allow technological advances to resume when we can teleport! Cause I'm in huge favor of that!

How was that for a random rant? Thank the internet.......lololll

Somehow I don't believe this is quite how she phrased it

This I believe

I don't believe I've ever heard a superhero complain about 'whiny bitches'.

Not EVERYONE does that...I'd like to think that people *in general* become more compromising as they get older. Also, that shit happens in face-to-face conversation as well. Especially when alcohol enters the mix. You're right though, it gets old real fast and stifles discussion so much that sometimes it's better to just walk away rather than deal with a concrete mind.

Concrete minds are usually simple ones. It's a lot more entertaining at that point to set up a conversation like a chess board. Get the pieces (points) lined up right and get a check-mate. The old, "drag them into deep water," "give them enough rope to hang themselves" game.

At least that's what I do in real life. Knowing the simpleton will spend a week trying to untangle the mess in their head is equally impressive.

Did I mention I also kick toddlers and spike cats onto the ground like a football?

Seriously, the reason most of these people act the way they do is because no one ever challenged them. They're the O'doyle rules kind of people. :l:
